I had a basics asda one, lasted for about 6months before the blade moved and wouldn't be moved back.
I bought the next price up from sainsburys, dual whizzing action, it's still working 18 months on. I make soup often and whizz it often, so it's seen a bit of use.

I found Phillips to be a good make, and I've now got a Bosch which has also been good.

I was lucky enough to be given a Bamix and when (possibly even IF) that dies I will spend the extra & buy another. Can't fault it and I've had it & used it just about daily for 15 years, and my friend had it for two before me.

I have a Kenwood Triblade with the potato ricer attachment. Its robust and does a good job (I was surprised by how well the ricer does vegetable purees) It replaced a cheapy that lasted just under two years, and is coming up to three years of regular use. If it died I'd replace it with the same (or with the extra attachments version, which would allow me to retire the mini food processor)

I'm still using a Bamix I bought in the early 80s. They are expensive but I've never had a problem with it. I bought the wet and dry mini processing unit last year to go with it (I think they come with it now) and that has improved its' usefulness even more.

I've got a Braun that has a few attachments with it - absolutely great.

A friend has a supermarket cheapie & while it's good at some things, it just doesn't the oomph for others :)
  • I've got a £10 Cookworks two-speed cheapie one from Argos. I'm happy with it. I use it for making soup, and whipping cream.Brilliant at both. If you just want it for basic functions, go for a cheapie basic one, I would think. The extra attachments on more expensive ones are only worth it if you'll use them.

I have a Tesco Value one too, it's 8 years old and works great, think it was only £3 at the time. I make a lot of soups nd it does a great job.
