the shapes ones you're using - do they fasten with velcro etc?
i had some newborn bambino mios (second hand from ebay) but with a rapidly growing baby they didn't fit when he was 2 weeks old! (he was in 3-6 month clothes by 4 weeks old though). the wraps are tiny and i thought the nappies were very bulky inside the newborn wrap. i'd have used them with the next size up wraps though, and did but i didn't use bambino wraps. if i used newborn bambino i think i'd use something else as the pad inside, not the size 1 bambino pad (it's a square, you fold it over).
i used kushies size 1, and boots do their own similar, and prowrap. they are an all in one, with a waterproof covering and velcro. you fasten them in the same way as a disposable, very easy. they fit up to 22lb apparently. my baby was 17lbs when he grew out of them but babies are different shapes.52% tight0 -

someone will come to your house with a load of cloth nappies so you can pick the best for your needs0 -
We didn't start using reusables on our daughter until she was three months old, but I have heard loads of people suggest using muslins with newborns. They can then be used for umpteen things once baby has outgrown them or can be sold on Ebay. They won't need to hold the vast quantities of wee an older baby can produce and so don't need to be as absorbant. Not sure about wraps though. Have a look on babycentre as there is a cloth nappy forum with loads of really helpful people."I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0

Hi all!
jellyhead - yep the shaped ones we have been using fasten with aplix. We mostly used Tots Bots unbleached, Ella's House bumhuggers and Toddle Ease (fasten with poppers) with Motherease Airflow (again popper fastening.)
moo842 - I heard about lollipop quite a while ago, when we were first looking into nappies, but I heard so many bad stories about their service that I never used them at all.
Alleycat - muslins are on our list, sooo cheap! Also not bulky at all. Would need to use them with a slim-fitting wrap, ie a velcro one, so that would probably mean buying some Motherease Rikki wraps (big fan of Motherease wraps generally.)
Obviously cost is a major factor but I have been looking at a few shaped, sized cloth nappies that are a little less than the average prices. Also plan to buy all wraps from ebay as are plentiful on there and no point buying them new if you can get just as good bargains from ebay!

Not used them myself, but I have also heard that Junior Joy wraps are very good and cheap as well. We use fuzzi bunz and have found them to be great as we wanted something full proof for nursery and slimline. We did put dd in one of our emergency terrys and tots red wrap the other day as I was a bit behind on the washing and her bum was huge!! OH couldn't get over it, he kept tapping it and it was as solid as a rock!"I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0

I have a daughter in real nappies, and despite using disposables on my first child, I have had no regrets in using the real nappies - they're easy, leak-proof, and they save me money:T . The biggest problem i found was getting the right advice on brands.
I got some fantastic advice from my local nappy advisor, Lizzie's Real Nappies, and the Tots Bots she recommended have been great. She's recently started offering on-line advice at lizziesrealnappies.org.uk.0 -

What he would say to ask is which ones should we try out but I want to ask is how do I persuade him that terries are the way to go?!?!? A relevant point to mention is that for the first few weeks we have some eco disposables to use to get the meconium out of the way and whilst we decide which way to go with the nappies.
All advice appreciated!
Hi
I was eventually persuaded by my wife after contemplating the pros and cons of using real nappies. I am glad we went with the real nappies as they are definately better for the environment and the pocket.
Try this link which is a list of articles on choosing and using cloth nappies: -

In addition they still have a sale on cloth nappies which may be extra persuasion.
Best of luck

When my eldest was newborn I just used terry squares without any pins or fasteners. The midwives in hospital showed me the method of doing it. They stayed on fine and he was a big (9lb+) boy. The waterproof pants would have stopped them dropping off anyhow.0
