Oh, he had a little 'incident' at school yesterday and caused some rather painful damage to the skin on my left arm. He's been lovely today, if slightly anxious, so I am hoping he will settle a bit now he's on holiday.

His teacher (who is leaving to go to another school from September), came over to have a little chat with me today - I thought he was going to say Ryan had been in trouble, but he actually just wanted to say that he has enjoyed teaching Ryan, he has learned a lot, and will miss him. I felt really touched that he said that. I think he was genuine too, because he wasn't going round saying it to everyone, he just pulled us aside.

He also told me, in not so many words, that I really needed to push the school to make sure Ryan gets the help he needs. He seemed to be impying that school were not really doing what they need to be doing at the moment, and I might have a bit of a fight on my hands.

So my first job next term will be to chase up the things that were agreed with the head teacher in our meeting a few weeks ago (none of which have happened yet, apart from the things that WE have done ourselves, such as the Aspergers passport).

Bless the little man ~ what I read into that though is:
    • his *meltdown* lasted no time at all compared to the past
    • YOU sound so much cooler and calmer about things
which is all good and all steps in the right direction.

Fantastic teacher news (shame he didnt say all this to the head over the last year ) but you kick ass girl, especially if that other little boy is getting the support.

REMEMBER, your doing a fantastic job and you know what I think about your career options :p

Tig - thank you (and I have ;)). I do still want to work in that field, and I know I have accumulated a lot of knowledge about the subject over the last few years. I'm not sure I could fit it in at the moment, but when Natasha starts school in a couple of years, it's something I would love to do, possibly alongside my current job to start with, but one day i would like to do it full time.

Spud, that's what you do isn't it?

You definitely could Snags, there's some great OU courses on early years, children, young people and you can specialise in disability work.

There's Richard Hammond too Tig :D - other than that, I think we would be safe going manhunting together....no chance of fighting over the same one. :rotfl:

Gemz, that made me laugh! (the proverb thing)

I hadn't thought to look into courses, but maybe there would be something I could fit in now, so that if I do want to go into that line of work, I would have something formal to say I know a bit about what I'm doing. I would probably start by doing something on a volunteer basis, and then maybe work my way up.
