Faster payments - who can send and receive

  • Hmm, that's a bit crap. I was hoping to send £1000 in a few separate FPs, but it'd be quicker just to do it in one go if there's a £250 limit per day.

Derbyshire BS have received a faster payment. They didn't in April (it took 2 days) but have done in May. I sent £250 from Tesco to the Derbyshire - all completed in the same day.

I have noticed recently that when sending a payment from Lloyds TSB, even if we choose for the payment to be sent immediately, it won't be and it will show up on the list of payments as being schedhuled to go on the next working day. However on the next working day, the payment does go and it also gets credited straight away to the receiving account! Looks like they're getting somewhere.

They seem to be operating a hybrid system at the moment where they don't actually send a faster payment as such, but queue it as a sort of standing order for the next morning, and if you're lucky send the "standing orders" by FP.

They don't always send them by FP though, especially near a weekend or bank holiday...

I've found that with Lloyds too. I have recently sent three lots of £500 to ING. Online it gets scheduled to be sent, say the day after you action it (when you ask for ASAP), and it's away early that day & in ING. The two times I've phoned to get a FP through (like the help pages say) elsewhere, it couldn't be and was the usual few days.

Halifax, Natwest, Tescos - both ways -Makes a huge difference when moving large amounts of money around
LTSB could then couldn't on line - can by telephone but v small amounts and way too restrictive

Halifax have a cap of £1,000 on FP, I just phoned to ask them as my payment of £10,000 failed and I had to do a CHAPS to get it there that day (at my cost ).
Sadly as I had already set up the transfer, I then had £20,000 go from my account so I had to wait until today when the original transfer arrived at HSBC - the return transfer from HSBC, as ever, took nanoseconds to appear back in my Halifax account.

I wish Halifax would provide a reminder as to the size limits of FP before you commit to making the payment and can no longer cancel it.

They do - when you go to make a payment, before you click 'Submit', it says either
To complete your request, please click 'Submit'.

Your payment will be sent immediately and should reach the recipient within 2 hours*. We'll advise you of the outcome after submitting the payment.

    or
To complete your request please click 'Submit'.

You have selected today's date. On this occasion we're unable to send this as an Immediate Faster Payment.

Your payment will be sent on dd/mm/yyyy using our bill payment service.

It then goes on to say
NOTE: Your payment will be processed ONLY if you press the 'Submit' button at the bottom of this page. If you press your browser 'Back' button, or navigate away from this screen, your request will not be submitted.

So they give you plenty of opportunity to cancel it if you see that it's going to go by BACS rather than FP.

I sent £500 to ING from LTSB on Friday afternoon (15/5/09), knowing it wouldn't get there fast. It was scheduled to go 17/5/09. I see today this afternoon it has gone from my LTSB account but dated 18/5/09. I expect(hope) based on what has gone before it will arrive in my ING account on 18/5/09. I'll update this if it doesn't

Today I wasn't sure of the A&L limits, hadn't found this thread then lol. I had a problem sending £300 a few months ago, but sent £150,£100 and £100 as separate transactions to my rbs current account. All cleared instantly, so have they increased the daily limit? Or is this because it was a savings account to a current?
