OS Daily Friday 20th June 08

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for today. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning.

Day off today, but I think it will more like a work day, as I have so many jobs planned at home. After some computer work, I need to get the preparations made for the garden as I have a mini digger coming at the weekend and so I have to get ready. I booked the skip too, and of course the weather forcast is rain!

I did manage to cut some of the grass last night, so that was a bonus. I have to clean out the hens today and so it goes on.

It will be a busy weekend with my son leaving for USA on Monday, so packing to do and then leave on the overnight train on Sunday. It does mean I get to spend the day in London on Monday which will be my treat out of it. For those of you that live there, you may be thinking otherwise.

Well have a nice Friday

Hi everyone. I haven’t been on here much for the last couple of days. It’s been manic round here mainly because DH has been working at home revamping our porch and causing havoc. His sub-contractors have been calling round so that has meant numerous interruptions and cuppa-making and I have found it hard to concentrate on the things I need to get done. Of course, because I’m so handy at the moment, he keeps asking me to help him and then he’ll say ‘did you email so and so?’ or ‘don’t’ forget to make that phone call’ and I have to say ‘yeah, like you’ve given me time to do that’. I had to shout at him yesterday to give me an hour without interruption and I think it finally dawned on him why I get so much more done when he’s working away from the house! Anyway, it makes me sound ungrateful because he has done a lovely job with the porch so far. Having a brand new door, which is very elegant, has made such a difference – the old one was really rotten and probably not very secure. I washed the nets and we re-hung them last night then we just went outside and kept looking at it all – as you do! The chap who has just moved in opposite us now knows what my DH does for a living and has asked him to quote on a few things, which will be great for a few more weeks work, especially now that things in the construction industry are really slowing down due to the recession. He has had four different people phone him this week to see if he knew of any work going – this year and next are going to be quite scary for most of us, I think.

Anyway, as you can tell, I am making up for the lack of ‘M’ ing over the last couple of days!

SMOKY – I hope yesterday went well and that you are happy to be back at work.

TWINK – please give poor PENPIN my love when you next talk to her; she has been through such a lot – it’s so unfair that she feels so unwell.

CANDYGIRL – I’m glad your Dad is having the radiotherapy – good luck to him.

SNOWY OWL – I am going on my future daughter-in-law’s hen do on 4th July for two days. She has booked a self-catering holiday cottage for the weekend in Devon but she asked us all months ago so it has not been so much of a financial shock. We all paid £50 deposit when she booked it and then the rest, £30, a week or so ago, but £10 of that from each of the twelve of us is for food which we will buy before we go. We then plan to cook and eat in on the first day and go out for a meal and a drink on the second day. I must admit, I don’t understand why these modern day brides and grooms need to spend so much on stag and hen get-togethers. DS2 is taking his best man and fifteen other friends away for the weekend, too. Last year, they went to Bratislava for another friend’s stag weekend and it cost them all a fortune - £300 each! In my day we just went out for a drink!

R.MAC – I hope the morning sickness goes away soon – it’s horrid, isn’t it?

BETH - you are probably in Spain now so I hope things are going well.

    CHURCHMOUSE - :hello: :hello: :hello:

    POPPYSCAR – (((Hugs))) to you.

Welcome to CONFUSED NEWBIE – hope you enjoy it here!

I’m sure I’m missing lots of people out but I have only had time to skim the thread so lots of (((hugs))) to all who need them.

Anyway, off for another cuppa so see you all later.

I hope to have a better day at work today, it's very busy, which I like, but one of my machines died on me yesterday & won't be repaired til Mon/Tue, to cap it all one of the teachers got stroppy with me when I explained why I couldn't do her work instantly! Funny thing is her work wll now go to the bottom of the list, lol.
WM & on & hubby will hang the washing out for me later if it stays dry.
Hugs to Candy, Mrs Mix, Jayward, Jannie, Smokey & PP.
    Have a good day.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all

Cloudy here this morning, and still looks a bit breezy. I can't believe today is the longest day (usually tomorrow, but according to the GMTV weather girl it is today because of a leap year  ) Anyway, top and bottom of it is that the nights start drawing in - whatever happened to Summer ?

Smoky, hope your first day back at work went well, it must be so difficult for you, so sending you a hug x

Dazi, are you a granny yet ?

I'm not cooking dinner tonight as we are going to an auction, so will probably call for a Chinese :j

Just heard that the cost of air travel is proabably going to rise by 40%, glad we've got the caravan. I am getting really fed up with all these gloomy predictions :o

Have a good day everyone x

Morning all, Watched the Huge sunrise this morning sat on the patio with my coffee, arrived in Sunny Spain yesterday, got the hire car and drove to DB & SiL's. Smooth trip thanks to sat nav.

So So pleased to see DB. told him the latest news about DB2's health, had a long chat, followed by lots of happier moments. Went out for dinner had more laughs followed by more laughs. We all enjoyed our time together.

    ¡Hola!

Sun already burning the pavements this morning at 8 am. Walking now postponed to after 9 pm due to the only coolish time of day. Reached over 30 yesterday.

Glad seeing DB is going well Beth, I think you may be going to Denia? Just a tad too far.

Shower in a mo, then will put the towels inthe WM. Off inland to see friends this p.m. and then Tapas meal tonight. Think we may be hitting a pool today.

(((hugs))) smoky, pen-pin, jayward, candygirl, and everyone else who'd like a gentle one (((hugs)))

One for you to HH even though the claim not to care, I think we know you on here now, and you always try to get things done regardless of the obstacles. Though I like your answer to Stroppiness.

    Take care all

HI everyone, and hugs to all in need.................

still no news from oh - i'm taking strength from the fact that my texts are getting there (i'm getting delivery reports) so he's alive enough to keep his phone charged up.............i guess he's retreated into his cave and won't be out for a while. it's never been like this before though. have never prayed as much as this before................

other than that only today to survive at work and may have a short one as the office is being used today for something else, so once i finish my appointments i will have to 'work' at home!

then mega hard work this weekend trying to do something major to my garden....probably in the rain by the sound of the forecast.

    see you all later,

    PO xx

    Morning all,

Didn't get a chance to get on here yesterday so will check yesterday's thread shortly. Went and visited DSis today. She's doing tremendously and hopefully she'll be out on Sunday. BIL taking 2 weeks off to give her a hand but if he gets called away with work Florence Nightingale :D moi :p will come to her rescue.

I sorted out my bean bag yesterday and after hours of dreary unpicking it's worked out well. His curtain material turned up today from Ebay so I expect I'll be curtain making next week. Tomorrow off to spend the day with DD and hit the shops & then she's coming back here to sleep over. DH working late tonight. It's just left overs. I'm starving so will have mine soon.

Poppy Not sure what you mean but <hugs> anyway.
Smoky Hope your first day at work went well.

Will pop back later. Hope you have a lovely day. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)
