Do not in any circumstances use SPECTRUM, you can do everything they can do and more and it'll save you a hefty down payment & £28 pcm for them just to post cheques.

Use the processes on here and on CAG to make your creditors back off and give you time.

I totally agree. Use one of the FREE debt help charities such as CCCS or via the CAB or Payplan - look in the Debt free wannabies part of this site for contact details.

Also with your housing problem, have you contacted Shelter for advice?.

thanks for the debt advice guys, it's really appreciated. we are working with trading standards here to try and get stuff sorted.

funnily, we have been in touch with the local paper. they ran a story about a young lass who got told by our council to declare herself homeless and she would be housed quicker, something that has defo not happened to us. we phoned and they are running a story on us in the next edition (out next thursday), and we had the photographer round about 5 minutes ago!

  • Are you aware that you can access help via Welfare Managers with the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency. Welfare Managers offer advice, guidance and information on such as housing, employment, war disablement pension and armed forces compensation claims to name but a few. We are all over the country, but to find out the Welfare Manager for your area just call the SPVA Helpline 0800 169 2277. I hope this helps and good luck.

Just wanted to update you all and say a huge THANK YOU ALL for the support and helpful advice I've received. We went to the newspapers about our housing situation and it worked!

We have been offered a house by the council and have accepted it today! It is half the size of the quarter we are in but it means that we have our own home that we can do what we want with. We have to sell our brand new dining table as it won't fit in the new house but that's nothing compared to being homeless!

We are now just waiting for the keys so we can sign the tenancy agreement and move out of here and start getting our own lives back!

Thank to all of you! I don't think I could have gotten through this time without all the support I've received from you all.

(ps we have a SSAFA rep coming tonight to talk to us about our debts to see if there is any way they can help us, fingers crossed!)

Further to my last post, seems like ages ago but we finally have the keys and are about to move in this week! It feels like we have waited forever but that wait is now over.

The SSAFA rep did come (7 months after we first contacted them!) and we are still waiting for any kind of word back, last time we spoke he said he was waiting for records to confirm OH's service. We have tried to speak to various agencies but they all want us to go via SSAFA so it looks likewe are still going to lose a lot of our stuff in order to keep our heads above water.

Financiallyy things are looking desperate as OH isn't even earning half what he did when still serving but we are determined not to be bogged down with it. We have to be positive or one of us would have a breakdown!

Many thanks to all who showed support for us, we really appreciate it xxx

Dismissal before the investigation is complete?

Never heard of that one before in my 22yrs in HM Forces.

I agree as a HR SSA (Discipline Admin!) I deal with AGAI major actions etc and also complusory discharges and your OH should have been told he has 3 months from date of discharge to redress this issue. see CAB. If he is not found proved of anything then sue!!
