Just wanted to say a big thank you to all who posted on here to try and help us. DH is now out of the army and we are still in the surplus quarter. Still waiting for a house from the council. The downside is DH did have a job but it fell through and he has had to sign on. Looking bleak. We have seen a debt advisor and are still waiting 3 months down the line for ssafa to come see us.

Just a word of advice to anyone in a similar situation. We were told by the RBL people in germany that the British Legion would help us financially as we cannot pay our car and stuff. That would be the case if we lived in England but the RBL scotland apparently do not give financial help. So things are still looking bleak but at least we are nearly home! We only live 1 hr away from family so its not too bad!

Thanks again to everyone, I really appreciate it xxx

  • So, is your husband getting a medical discharge pension, or are you having to get your solicitor to issue a writ for unfair dismissal?

All those years left on his contract will equate to a pretty hefty sum if the Army were in the wrong to kick him out.

    Good luck!

There is an investigation ongoing, but we have a civilian lawyer on standby.

The investigation so far has taken about 4 months but there is no timeframe for how long it will take. We are just waiting for the initial report then we will know a bit more about whats happening lol.

DH is just trying to settle back into "normal" life but its taking a while as it was a real shock when it happened. So we are just taking things one day at a time.

Many thanks! All the support on here has been fantastic. D x

  • Dismissal before the investigation is complete?

Never heard of that one before in my 22yrs in HM Forces.

    Hi Martin

Yeah, we tried to get them to let DH stay in until the investigation was completed but they would not listen. I thought it was strange but apparently that is how things are done now lol.

lee - i said lol because if we don't try to laugh we would just sink into depression and that is not good for my DH as he has had enough heartache thru this. we know there is little chance of him getting to continue his service - he knows that and it makes him unhappy to say the least. we have had to live with this for months now and it has put a real strain on my family ... and the lol was aimed at the powers that be, i was certainly not laughing about my husband losing his career.

  • Write to Soldier Magazine - if the cause is just then the reporters will help if only by publicising it!

Sorry to hear that you and your kids are being evicted, with so much debt hanging over you. Have you considered seeking advice from a debt management company. One company called Spectrum, fixed a friend's debt repayments to a manageable level for 5 years and should then have the clout to get them written off. i suspect that this would kill your credit score for a long time, but may be worth it in the long run. Good luck budgeting your way bak to UK.

Do not in any circumstances use SPECTRUM, you can do everything they can do and more and it'll save you a hefty down payment & £28 pcm for them just to post cheques.

Use the processes on here and on CAG to make your creditors back off and give you time.

Don't use SPECTRUM for a DMP
