Cheap but sturdy garage shelving/storage ???

Could be worth looking in local yellow pages for second hand office furniture shops and paying them a visit see if they have anything suitable. These places tend to have good quality stuff, and often come up with a good deal, especially when offered cash.0

I looked at some plastic shelving last night in Focus/Doitall/Payless (whatever it's called now). I have to admit it was much stronger than I was expecting. At £20 for a 5 tier shelf it could be a contender... if it was a tenner a set I'd definitely have bought some.Ah! Good old trusty beer... I hope you never change.0 -
Ours has had just about everything stacked on them and you get brackets with them if you want to secure them to the wall, also my mum has got them in her garage and she has so much stuff on them its unbelievable0

Probably the same stuff as I saw then, do you remember what the make was... The stuff I saw began with a 'C' I think...Ah! Good old trusty beer... I hope you never change.0 -

Hmm, well decided against them at £20 a set anyway, saw a set assembled and just seemed, well, too wobbly for £20 a set. If they were a tenner (like you paid) it may be worth it.
Anyhow, still waiting and biding my time.Ah! Good old trusty beer... I hope you never change.0 -
Gorm from IKEA http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10101&storeId=7&categoryId=10760&langId=-20&parentCats=10104*10173*10760&cattype=sub
Stable, sturdy (50KG per shelf), wood so it doesn't rust and fairly cheap. It also has the advantage that if you have an awkward space, you can cut the wood uprights to size. Works nicely in my garage.
The only problem is that when you go to IKEA they will be out of stock of at least on part you need.0 -
My husband has just put some up in our shed and they are exceptionally sturdy. The ones we got were from Costco and worked out around £45. The way he has got ours is as two separate smaller units that come to waist height and is using them as shelves and work surfaces.

The one we have is the storage rack GRZ 8460-50 -
Thanks Altarf - I already have one of those shelves, but I'm already overloading it, so really want something a bit more sturdy. Plus the thought of having to go all the way up to Croydon to spend half a day queuing doesn't exactly appeal!
Alison B - Thanks... I'd not heard of Gorilla Rack before - looks very nice stuff.
Unfortunately I don't live anywhere near a CostCo, so it looks like that's not an option.
Thanks again to everyone who's posted suggestions... I never knew there was so much choice in the shelf world.Ah! Good old trusty beer... I hope you never change.0
