    Thanks Ted...
It's just that the cheap sheet metal ones simply don't look very sturdy to me.
It's looking like the Clarke ones are still my best bet.... just a shame I missed out on the Bargain Crazy and the Argos ones.

A big thanks to everyone who's posted suggestions - very much appreciated.

There's an Ebay seller (bigdug?) who is selling some REALLY nice and sturdy looking 'industrial' style shelves and benches... but again we're talking big money. I even bid on an auction for some last night, but it was out of my league.

I guess I'll keep on looking around for any bargains for the next week or so, then it will probably be a case of just ordering full price Clarke shelving.
Ah! Good old trusty beer... I hope you never change.

Just checked my local store (Lincoln) and they are in stock :)

The Focus ones are the ones i got from Homebase for £17.99 very good

Are they the same then? It looks like they won't take much weight & topple over easily.

if you have a brick wall then you could get this type of shelving, best thing about it is you can decide on the height and depth of each shelf:

Just buy the uprights, fix to wall, then fix the u brackets and then a contiboard as the shelf. If you want it to hold a lot of weight then buy more uprights and keep them closer together.
    ummm...

Thanks g33za, I've used this shelving system in the past, so yes, I guess I could use it again and it would probably suit very nicely. I think cost wise it works out to much the same as the other types of shelving I've looked at.
Will certainly bear it in mind... especially as I've just been sent a £20 Screwfix voucher in the post!

I bought a 5 shelf black plastic unit from b&Q for £19.99 which seems fairly sturdy, noticed they were on offer recently for a tenner. It just clips together with a couple of clamps you can use to attach it to a wall to stop it toppling over.

Went in there today, but no sign of any plastic shelves....

    Thanks deanos...
I just popped into B&Q at lunchtime... as you say, not as bad as I'd thought... each shelf can hold up to 60kg, so that's not too bad at all.
Definitely one for the shortlist! (Still think I'd prefer the Clarke shelves if I can get them... 150kg per shelf is more like it!)

so which ones did you go for? i am looking at storage systems for my garage at the moment as well and i am fair taken by the e bay seller you mention (bigdugltd) I have seen one of his job lots including 4 bays and a big workbench for £160 and it looks quality stuff but when you add the £40 delivery it gets a bit too expensive. Can you let us know what you went for and if they are any good.

    Cheers

Know what you mean... the delivery charge really pushes up the cost....
It looks really heavy duty stuff mind so I guess you get what you pay for. For the moment I haven't gone for anything... I'm a bit of a bargain hunter so have difficulty justifying paying full price for anything. :D The garage has been in a state for months, so another couple of weeks isn't going to hurt... if no bargains present themselves I'll review the situation then. I might even build my own...
