I did ask originally for it to be replaced and they said no they are going to repair it. Now, going by the replies that I had re this on here most of the clique would have been happy with that, I mean what more did I want??
I wanted what I got in the end, a replacement tv. Not down to them simply changing their minds and them calling me back to tell me this, it was down to me insisting (politely) that it be replaced.
I thank you. Thread over.........???0 -

Within the first year, Panasonic would be paying for the repairing / replacing, maybe it was them that changed their mind?Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -
Ok so you were lucky, not persistent I think. The cost of replacing the TV is cheaper than replacing the screen as the screen is the most expensive component and involves a lot of time to replace. I really doubt whether anything that you had to say would have had any bearing on it. It's down to simple economics. If a smaller component had gone it would no doubt have been a different story and then like the rest of us you would have had to wait for a repair. Anyway, I glad you're happy with the outcome and we've all had a bit of enjoyment with the posts!0

What I said to John Lewis (not Panasonic) did have a bearing on the outcome. At no point have I spoken with Panasonic, I was able to speak with the manager at JL who gave me a decision there and then with regards to the replacement.0

They might have already spoke to Panasonic who said just replace it.0

Why can't those on here who dictated that I should be grateful that it was being repaired accept that I did not follow their teachings and went down my own path which was succesful.
To satisfy your own ego's must you insist that it was luck on my part and I really should have stuck to your teachings and accepted the repair. If you want to call it luck then I made my own luck if it makes you feel better.
It is the people on here that suggested that I should have welcomed the repair with open arms who are the losers in the long run if this is how they deal with retailers who sell them defective goods and know they will have no comeback of substance should it develop a major fault well within a reasonable timescale.0 -
Years ago we had a Sony TV bought on the High Street. The shop gave us a replacement TV whilst ours was in for repairs. It was just aswell as our TV went away several times for a sound fault and it was away for weeks at a time!
Glad you got your problem sorted Gabrielle. I'd hate to be without my TV, and yes you could liken it to my life support machine, lmao.0 -

I think you're getting a bit confused. How someone not have any comeback. A faults a fault.0 -
Comeback of substance in this instance in my eyes equates to being persistent (at the same time as being polite) and insisting on a replacement and a major fault would be the screen showing a line of down the centre of it on a permanent basis and having to be replaced.
You and your clique have already indicated that they would accept the repair which in my eyes gives the retailer no comeback of substance and you have merely accepted what they tell you is going to happen. And there are of course varying degrees of fault and this is of couse a major one which has been accepted by John Lewis (not Panasonic) which has resulted in a replacement.0 -
I'm with the OP on this. John Lewis have a reputation to maintain - that's why we pay so much for their goods after all - and I would have expected them to offer to replace a less than one year old tv.
I buy from JL because I like to think I can rely on them to offer a better than normal service and after care.
As for comments about spending all your time in front of a tv - some people on here seem to spend an awful lot of time in front of their computers.
Touche! (and if I could find the accent I would put it on, but life's too short and I'm probably missing something good on telly)Ellie
