Please can someone help. We live in a quater in Norfolk and have wired mesh fence up in the garden. only trouble is our "lovely" neighbours along with their awful kids have 2 staffordshire bull terrier dogs. I have a 4 and 2 year old and my 2 year old keeps going to the fence and sticking his finger through the fence to the dogs who are always outside near our fence. our neighbours never take their dogs out. My friends when they come over often bring their small children and they are worried about their children and can never relax as are worried their children will get bitten, as are we. Please can someone tell me if we are entitled to have a "normal" type fence put up between our gardens before someone gets bit by one of these dogs. Many thanks!
p.s sorry for the long post!0 -

Nope! I have tried before. You are allowed to put up your own fencing though. Do you get on with these neighbours? Perhaps they would be willing to share the cost of some fencing to protect your kids/their dogs. I'm sure they wouldn't want the hassle that may come from one of their animals biting a child any more than you want a child to get bitten.0 -
No unfortunately my neighbours are very strange so they would be unwilling to help as would think it was a personal attack on them putting a fence up!! I think I may have to write a long detailed letter to DHE or take it further if need be!0

How about telling your children not to stick their fingers through the fence? The dogs should be able to be out in their garden without being bothered or teased by children sticking their fingers through the fence at them! And why should you be worried because they are staffordshire bull terriers?Bowel Disease (Ulcerative Colitis) since 1996 (quite possibly Crohn's Disease).0 -
well excuse me! but He is 2 years old and the dogs still stick their noses through. How would you like to live next door to them! you are most welcome to swap. My children DO NOT tease these dogs. They have a huge garden as have an end terrace and are always near our fence. they are not nice dogs and I am sure in that small a house 2 of those dogs should not be permitted. I will definatley be speaking to DHE tomorrow.0

I'm on the recieving end of the dog problem!
My neighbour (Ever seen Neighbours from Hell? They have it easy!) has two children, and the oldest (toddler) is a nightmare. My Labrador goes up to the fence (as he wants to play) and the child sticks grass and branches through the fence, and has thrown rocks over the fence at my dog. The only route we've been told is to put up another fence (Bamboo or similar fencing - From B'n'Q or something similar). It's expensive, but theres no other way to protect my dog from the terrors next door. Maybe something similar will be your solution?0 -
oh, and also, on the subject of buying your MQ, this is the message I recieved:
"Unfortunately it is very rare that the military will dispose of properties in this manner. Most properties are on large estates which , if required, could be brought up to a certain level of security if required and that DE are attempting to maintain this isolation. There are isolated properties dotted around but these are often mothballed and not sold for a long time after the last occupancy, things dont move fast in DE and decisions take forever to materialise. Large scale sales do occur, for example RAF Coltishall has sold off a number of homes at a discount to ex and current serving military personnel - but not on an existing home basis - again due to the time lag between occupancy and sale. Another factor is that Defence Estates no longer own the properties but are merely leasing them. They were sold wholesale in the early 90's to Annington Homes. Any sale of property is passed from DE, back to Annington Homes to then sell."
Which is a shame. In current circumstances, with the MOD losing money rapidly et al, I'm sure the amount of people who would want to buy their MQ is quite large, and what little money the military can save by "getting rid" of some MQ's would aid them slightly.. My wife and I love our house, and have many times discussed what we would change. We like the area (barring the neighbours, but I can bear them) and it's easy for our life. People who live in council houses that get sold off etc get rights to buy them, so I can't understand why we can't? Once again, it just seems that both of us being in full time employment, not claiming benefits etc is getting us seen off.
But oh well, it won't change, and we'll just have to keep saving for and looking for a house exaclty like what we have at the moment.0 -
It is worrying when you have a mix of children and others dogs. We had a neighbour whose dog was forever escaping into our garden luckily it was very friendly but my dd is very scared of dogs so not great for us!
Unfortunately as long as the dogs are contained i don't think DE will do much for you and will more than likely tell you erect your own fence.0 -
in keeping with the married quarter theme - where are all the possible charges for moving out listed? ie marks on walls etc. A little birdy told me i couldnt get charged if i have small children but my estate warden has already hinted we will be charged for redecoration of a room with 'any marks'. We are in BFG0
