dmg because me and you have different morals.

My thinking is they took the easy way out threw a £10 bribe at the people affected to appease. The better thing would have been to attempt to do some orders.

You seriously telling me if you had no food, was housebound, lived alone and had a 30 minute notice your food wasnt arriving you would not be angry, you would simply shrug it off. Rightfully the bbc are following this up a reporter has already rang me.

    To answer your points.
They have explained why they could not fulfil your order.

doesnt correct the mistake, if I breach a loan with my bank eg. does my bank say ok no problem you have explained why you cant honour your loan contract we will let it go.
Why should they give you cash?

I never said they should, but was pointing out that the compensation is simply only worth something if I choose to shop there again.
I'm sure they'll really miss you.

One thing I agree on, another customer will replace me if I dont shop there again.
That isn't their fault. What would you do if they stopped the service altogether? You would have to pay someone then

We dont know the exact nature of what went wrong, but it doesnt matter whos fault it is. Ultimately they are responsible.
Are they going to do this for every customer? They would never get any orders out!

They getting no orders out now, whats the difference? getting some orders out would retain more customers and will at least give them more revenue than no orders.

Ok you feel sorry for the company, but this is a vent forum I am venting thats all.

Have you stopped and thought for a moment about how embarrassing this could be for you?

It was a home shopping delivery. While very inconvenient, there have been no consequences whatsoever as a result of their mistake. You have your shopping because your sister brought it to you.

It's over now. You need to move on.

What on earth has this got to do with morals?!!

If you make such a fuss out of this, I hate to think what you would do if something bad really happened.

I'm really shocked at some people's attitude to this issue!
I have epilepsy and therefore cannot drive to go get my shopping, I used to rely on taxi's but changed to home delivery as soon as it became available in my area.
I had Asda let me down once but they let me know as soon as possible and gave me my next 3 deliveries free = approx £10.50.
I consider myself blooming lucky that we live in such a society where we can get everything we need delivered to our doors.
If they're giving everyone whose been letdown £10 for a fault beyond their control I think thats very honourable.
I mean do we charge when we've been waiting in the travel agents to book a holiday only to find that the hotel we want to go to is fully booked?? Erm nope.

And the moral of this story is... make sure you have a bit of grub in the cupboards in case of emergencies. ;)
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

It wasn't a bribe, it was a goodwill gesture that they didn't need give, they could have just said they're not making the delivery and you're getting nothing, instead they acknowledged that people would be unhappy and offering something more than they were entitled to might be a better idea than giving them nothing. Unfortunately some people just keep wanting more. Delivering goods wasn't possible so they inform you and offer a goodwill gesture but you still want more, although you claim it's not about money you jsut want the shopping you've already got other shopping now so presumably wouldn;t want a second lot of goods landing on your doorstep? The worst of it is that as much as you complain this will probably be provided for in the terms and conditions you will have agreed to, and before it is claimed I don't believe such terms would fall under the powers of the unfair contract terms act, there's nothing unreasonable about saying orders will be cancelled where performance is not possible.

The only cutomers they will lose are unreasonable ones who would undoubtedly become a problem at some stage. Everybody understands it's annoying what happened but Sainsbury's have apologised and offered you more than they need to, and other than a higher monetry figure as much as they could reasonably be expected to do. They're now putting efforts into sorting the system out and wasting time dealing with people who would moan regardless, unless they gave them their shopping for free (completely unreasonable to expect) would just prolong the problem.
