worrying p.s.. a cheque i sent to saunsburys bank last thurs (recorded del) is stlll not on, and no record of delivery yet - checked royalmail tracking both online, and phone..)

called bank, but they have no record of it yet, but said it takes 3days for them to process, and FIVE days to clear, if/when it does turn up?

1/ how come this takes so long- i thought new procedures had shortened clearing times..

2/ cheques paid in over the counter at other (high sret) banks show credited the next day..

Sainsbury's use another company to run their banking service. (Can't remember who.)

You should always have your own record of the details of cheques you pay in whether you do it in person over the counter, using a machine or via the post. Banks do lose them or pay them into the wrong account by accident.

Also with recorded delivery and sometimes with special delivery, if a company receives a large volume of mail the actual slip is never signed for. However if you do use either of these methods and have a legal dispute the judge/chairman will not believe that the company did not get the letter.

    Are you real?

All that a court would do is put you back in the position that you were in before the contract was formed i.e. a refund of your money.

What court? Who mentioned court? :rotfl:

Clearly they had some access to their systems as they knew I had a delivery due and got my contact details

It's quite conceivable that they periodically make printouts of the delivery details rather than wait until the second a driver is leaving and then look up addresses. It's also likely that all delivery information is downloaded to individual store computers so the claim and idea that the systems must have been operating for them to be able to contact you is not necessarily logical, they could easily have enough information to contact you even if their main national systems are down.
What court? Who mentioned court? :rotfl:

Well there's no real point in mentioning breach of contract if court isn't a consideration, unless we're talking about taking an issue to court the company wouldn't have to do anything even if they were in breach of contract (for a court to determine)

Really? So how much do you want just out of interest?

This computer failing affected my mums delivery too, she was quite pleased with her 10 pound voucher. She lives in the real world and realises that sometimes things like this happen:rolleyes:

I don't think they've even taken the money, they run it through the till before loading to despatch.

If everyone who was affected demanded more than £10 compensation, you would just see this reflected in their prices.

The computer messes up - they inform you as soon as possible and give you £10 compensation. What more do you want?

    my food?

£10 isnt cash its a discount if I choose to use them again.

I have made an order with asda now and they may have lost my custom.

As for it been a minor inconveniance which many seem to imply it is, be aware I cannot just decide to walk to a shop and get food I had to pay someone taxi fares to get my shopping for me, cost me far in excess of a measly £10 evoucher.

What was stopping sainsburies asking me for my order over the phone, and then processing it manually and honouring the delivery?

I cannot believe some people think this happening is good because they prefer to wait for food and get £10 then for it to just work.

According to the news this is due to a serious computer fault. I cannot understand why you have posted it in the "vent" board when it appears that this is something outside the control of Sainsburys.

end of the day I dont care whos fault it is other than sainsburies have failed on a delivery contract. Where else would I post it?

Most likely cause is a security breach, if a computer failed questions have to be asked as to why a large company isnt running a redundant system.

In fact life isnt all about money for me, even with £30 compensation I would be angry. I would prefer 0 compensation and an effort to get my food to me even if they had to do it at midnight but just get it to me. The only reason I am moaning about the low £10 voucher is it doesnt even recover my costs as a result of the howler.

They have explained why they could not fulfil your order.

£10 isnt cash its a discount if I choose to use them again.

Why should they give you cash?

I have made an order with asda now and they may have lost my custom.

I'm sure they'll really miss you.

That isn't their fault. What would you do if they stopped the service altogether? You would have to pay someone then.

What was stopping sainsburies asking me for my order over the phone, and then processing it manually and honouring the delivery?

Are they going to do this for every customer? They would never get any orders out!

I cannot believe some people think this happening is good because they prefer to wait for food and get £10 then for it to just work.

I can't believe you are kicking up such a fuss for a genuine error.
