    Let me explain!

Sometimes the system crashes when it suddenly goes under extreme load or there a problem. Most online stores are logged into the system until about 10pm which they close up for the night.

Nearly every time I hear of a crash they usually fix it overnight when the network of computers across the country reduces it load on the online systems. Since most of the staff using them all gone home. So the panic button gets pressed in the early hours then they realise the problem is a lot bigger than first thought, which is prob what happened. Of course, if they lost all the orders, they prob been trying to restore the orders. Think about it every store could have between 30 to 150 orders a DAY and across 150 stores, that just unthinkable exactly how much is in the system. Without restoring the orders and finding out who ordered and who didn't how can they phone the customers?

They cannot phone every single customer on their system because 80% prob haven't even ordered for that day. So they prob been working on backups of the orders as the IT guys trying to fix it, prob means they have to look at every order manually? If they do, seriously 20,000 orders?! You still got to get the contact details! I bet the call centre it prob not even designed to handle that extreme amount of calls they got to make.

I understand a mass email would be a simple option, but send one of them out then you suddenly could have 20,000 customers phoning up who ordered, and prob God know how many more phoning up asking "Oh is my delivery on Friday/Sat/Sun" ok? That will will ruin the call centre day, half of the companys customers ringing the same number just to ask if they will still get deliveries on other days. Meaning the customers affected don't get a chance to get their phone call in.

This way they phone the customers concerned and go from there.
What would you like? Ring 20,000 customers up and explain? Or have 40,000 customers ringing you at the same time???

    To be honest,

    <snip>

    Tesco ................
    Sainsburys ......................
    Asda .......................

Thing is..... end of the day, Sainsburys are offering £10 off the next shop which is 2 deliveries free. Or if you spend £70 or more on Tues/Wed/Thurs where the charge is £2.50 thats the next four deliveries free. I heard some customers ended up with £15/20/25 worth of vouchers. Seriously.... customer service can't be that bad eh?

I dont use Tesco because they dont accept visa electron on the site. Quite amazing really, i even emailed them to explain that 2 of the larger banks halifax , and natwest, were getting rid of the older Solo type cards, and were moving alot onto visa electron. tescos reply was, we dont and have no intention of ever accepting Visa Electron.

More fool them. The amount of visa electron debit only cardholders in the uk, is made up primarily, from people who dont have credit cards. and they usually get all benefits and Tax credits paid into those accounts, and have that money available to spend every week.

Adsa, a couple of years ago, took the same stance. I notice now, that asda DO accept visa electron. but i dont use asda, as i dont like the website, and the way it add's purchases up.

I use sainsburys, because i like the ease of use of the website, i like the way it takes off all the savings as you go along rather than the asda site, which gives you the full figure without taking into accout bogof's etc.

And the foods OK , but only really worth it if you get alot of the offers as well as some of the "inspire to cook" and "taste the difference" stuff.

Some of the basics stuff is ok , choc biccies 20p , still pop to dilute 15p.

just stay away from basic gravy cubes and noodles........ in fact , stay away from any "basic" product that comes from china.

    Anyway,

i really couldn't give a fig what the driver looks like, weather he speaks or not, or how polite he is.

i just want my delivery, when and where i expect it.

Have you worked with the online systems, could you explain what each area of the system does and how it is monitored, how the security is handled and how each order is dealt with?

    1. Deals with payments and only payments
    2. Deals with the ordering
    3. Deals with the shopping in the store
    4. Deals with the routing and timetables for the drivers/vans
    5. Deals with the passing the order to the checkout when a special barcode is scanned, then that gets the payment details off another system to pay the shopping.
    6. Security...... security........ security - on every system.
    7. SQL Database - what runs the website
    8. Web Server - what runs the website as well
    9. Countless of servers which talk to the store servers dealing with the online operations on site.

There I named at least 9 systems..... wanna try and manage them? There isn't anyone that manages ALL of the systems, there are differnet people who are trained on certain systems. They prob all sitting around a big table with laptops connected to different servers trying to fix it. Once it fixed the entire system got to be tested for security reasons.
