Hi guys, everyone's doing so well with electricity but I'm guessing that it's the gas (which we don't have) that affects the carbon emmissions more because my i-measure results for this week state the following:

Since you started measuring your total household -
Energy use is 711 kWh (Gas: 0kWh | Electricity: 711kWh)
    Carbon emissions are 372 Kg CO2 (Gas: 0 Kg CO2 | Electricity: 372 Kg CO2)

    Last week you spent:
    • £0.00 on gas
    • £42.36 on electricity (It actually cost £28.51)
Total you have spent on energy since starting imeasure (2 weeks ago):
    • £0.00 on gas
    • £85.32 on electricity (It actually cost £57.47)
    Carbon Emitted & Energy Used
The tables give you information about your household (black numbers) in comparison to the average imeasure households you choose to be compared (red numbers).

Your results are being compared with the averages of 235 households.

    Carbon emissions Kg CO2
    Last week
    Per person 62 (74)
    Per household 185 (232)

I am pleased to see that, despite having such high electricity useage, our household carbon emissions are below the i-measure averages. I can't see my new carbon rating yet, got another 2 weeks to go in the new place before it lets me see that.

The new timer hasn't worked, I need to phone the electrician AGAIN!

  • Well I'm an E again and 51/52. On the bright side I have discovered that the outside light at the front door has been on all night for the last couple of weeks which explains my 20kwh jump in electric used. The gas use has settled at a fairly consistent 700ish KWH per week. And the electric use was 78kwh this week and should come back down to around 60ish next week. We also had word that both our gas and electric prices are going to drop after Christmas which is good.

    Well done to everyone else!
  • forgot to add my readings till now - am currently 15/53 and a C

Really hope the money spent calculation is somewhere near (it was almost spot on for my last bill in October). If it is it'll be miles cheaper than the same period last year, I'll be in credit at the end of January :j and all our efforts will have been so worth it.

    Last week you spent:
    • £14.28 on gas
    • £8.64 on electricity
Total you have spent on energy since starting imeasure (22 weeks ago):
    • £134.97 on gas
    • £154.68 on electricity
  • I started reading my meters on Mondays and put readings on spreadsheet. Last week we used 7 units of gas less but 15 of electricity more. Since we had new kitchen installed my electricity bills have shot up. I put this down to dishwasher and extra freezer but now realize its the fan oven. I did a lot of baking last week for Christmas so oven was on all afternoon but dw was not used more than usual. I am awaiting a free monitor which should be handy but am thinking of investing in a Remoska instead of using oven. I tried working out the cost of units of gas and elec but got in a muddle so just decided to check it each week and try to reduce usage. Dont know what extra 15 units of electricity costs but trying to keep within our direct debit payments.

Well here's mine after one week, although how accurate it is is hard to say as the first meter reading was 4 days late and the second 2 days late.

    Your Results in Detail

You have been taking readings for 1 week
Since you started measuring your total household -
Energy use is 314 kWh (Gas: 251kWh | Electricity: 63kWh)
    Carbon emissions are 85 Kg CO2 (Gas: 52 Kg CO2 | Electricity: 33 Kg CO2)
    Money Spent

How has my energy spend been calculated?
    Last week you spent:
    • £8.79 on gas
    • £7.56 on electricity
Total you have spent on energy since starting imeasure (1 weeks ago):
    • £8.78 on gas
    • £7.56 on electricity
    Carbon Emitted & Energy Used

The results in the tables for 'last month' and 'last quarter' are in terms of the weekly average. The tables give you information about your household (black numbers) in comparison to the average imeasure households you choose to be compared (red numbers).
You chose to compare your household with (Gas/electric households/Detached house) - to change your comparison go into your user detail settings.
Your results are being compared with the averages of 151 households.

I hope that gas cost is near accurate - we're currently paying £80 a month on DD and I'd dread to think if that was actually correct!

I work from home but have pretty much managed to do without having the heating on between 9-4 (except today I turned it on about an hour ago - fed up of feeling chilly today).

Took my readings today, at pretty much the same time as normal (give or take an hour)..... but I was rushing out, so have only just managed to enter them.

I'm horrified to find that our electricity has shot up this week :( We're up from 78kWh last week to 87kWh  Roll on 27th when elder DS departs to visit friends before heading back to barracks -- 'cos then I'll get a better picture of just how much he and his appliances are to blame for this :o

Our gas, on the other hand, has dropped again - from 276kWh last week to 207kWh. Like last week we had a couple of days where I didn't run the heating for as long -- but I would have expected the useage to be much the same overall

But the increase in electricity appears to be offset by the reduction in gas, as we've managed to maintain the 'C' rating we reclaimed last week :T

    Last week you spent:
    • £6.97 on gas (s/sheet figure = £7.59)
    • £10.44 on electricity (s/sheet figure = £9.38)
Total you have spent on energy since starting imeasure (13 weeks ago):
    • £70.57 on gas (s/sheet figure = £78.03)
    • £122.52 on electricity (s/sheet figure = £112.19)

It's terrifying how much extra electricity we use when the boys are around isn't it? All those computers, game consoles and hammer drills.:rotfl:
On a brighter note, I've managed to lower the gas usage a bit, though there's still quite a way to go. Just had my first bill and even though I'm in credit they want to raise the DD from £39 to £88 - and with my current figures I can't really argue can I?

I'd been wondering why ours had shot up by 19kwh for the last week, we've gone from 45kwh for the week ending Thurs 27th Dec steadily to 63kwh the week before last then 82 last week  Having read your post I've just remembered that for the last week I've had the freezer in the garage on for the extra food at Xmas, so I'm guessing that, coupled with the Xmas lights, the umpteen dishwasherloads on Xmas day, extra usage for smalls with computer games/Wii have all contributed. Can't do much about the latter but it'll be interesting to see about the freezer.

Tryning to keep the gas down but can't get a decent quantity of logs until Jan, ho hum.

  • Should point out that I didn't read my meters on Xmas day even though my recording day is a thursday....did it Xmas eve instead.....I'm not quite that obsessed but OH may say otherwise :)

  • Lowest gas reading for about 8 weeks and lowest electricity for about a month so a good week last week

Not really sure what we did different (out all day xmas day and had no heating on all day)

    Last week you spent:
    • £12.08 on gas
    • £11.28 on electricity
Total you have spent on energy since starting imeasure (11 weeks ago):
    • £137.17 on gas
    • £116.28 on electricity
As i have been monitoring useage for about 3 months now id be interested to know how much more people tend to pay for gas/electric in winter as opposed to summer months to get an idea of what my useage may be for a year
