My dehumidifier is my most useful purchase of 2008, I only wish I'd bought one sooner. It only uses a max of 200w per hour, but I've hardly ever used it on full power, plus that includes an air purifier. It probably uses about 1 kwu every 24 hours when it's running constantly. Best bit is that it's on wheels, so I just wheel it from room to room and I can sit it next to the clothes airer to help dry the laundry. Mine also fits into the corner beneath the coat rack, so wet jackets benefit from it too. I can recommend one to anyone who has any problems with dampness, musty smells or condensation. It may be a big outlay but if it helps prolong the life of your decor, windows and doors, it's well worth it.
Thanks for that - ill look at the prices of purchasing one
As you say if it saves the windows etc as everything is starting to go black now0 -

well to heck with it!!! all this saving of mine went out of the window during the past few days and last week I spent about £16 on energy. I am just over the hump of a nasty cold so the ch went on for longer and blow the cost but then again, that is what my savings are about. All I can say is thank goodness for solar gain as the whole back of the house faces south and I have k glazing, downstairs large patio doors so the kitchen is wonderful in the winter sun, first floor large bay window so the lounge is warm and cosy and a smaller window to the our main bedroom on the top floor. I feel so grateful that we chose this particular house 3 1/2 years ago0

Well I can make you all feel better
Last week you spent:- £25.59 on gas
- £11.04 on electricity
We also emitted 200kg of CO2. However we did have a lot of visitors this week which meant the oven and dishwasher were on more than usual. And I did a boil wash in the dishwasher too just to keep the pipes clean. So electric use went up from 66kwh to 82. It was also a lot colder and we had to keep the visitors warm so gas use went up from 52 units to 66  To be honest, visitors or not I'm not expecting it to come down much more if this cold snap holds.
I did attempt to drag DH over to look at curtains in house of fraser yesterday but he spotted the manouevre and took evasive action. However I did persuade him of the need to do something with the electric meter cupboard in the sitting room which a gale howls through. And I think I might try to get some of the sealing stuff you can get for where the wall meets the floor, I noticed lately that a gale howls through that as well! The only thing I am a bit worried about is the level of condensation in the house - and I'm not really going mad drying clothes or anything in it so it is mostly just from living. So perhaps sealing up the drafts is not such a good idea.
All this green living sometimes makes my head hurt. But DSIL last night announced the ridiculousness of drinking bottled fizzy water in environmental terms (and DH listens to her!) so the battle is inch by inch being won0 -

You sure have made me feel better - thank you;)
Out of interest what rating did Imeasure give you and your ranking?0 -
Hi Belfastgirl, I don't know why you worry, we have no gas and need to rely entirely on electricity, with the added benefit (or not) of now having the open fire, which eats coal and logs like they're going out of fashion.
Moved in on the 4th November, have used £62.60 of electricity here, probably about £5 worth of coal, fortunately it's all been free firewood so far, and I'm about to to a full year's tally on what the old house ate in electricity. THAT should be scary!I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

I'm an E and 57/57
I do not enjoy being at the bottom of the league table
But this is with deliberately being out of the house as much as possible, wearing fleecy dressing gown and keeping a hot water beside me in the evenings, 2 duvets on the bed etc. Hard to see what else to do. Although I must check and see if DH has sneakily changed the automatic switch on times....
