My Energy use Diary

Well down to a C rating this week mainly due to the below freezing temperatures and the snow, I'm quite happy with the Gas rating considering the weather we had (28KWH per day), but not happy with the electric (just under 9KWH per day), so need to concentrate on our electric usage and see if we can reduce it at all.0

Well my use this week was much the same as last week - think the cold weather only really bit here in the last day or so. This leaves me still an E and 50/51 in the carbon club again  but on the bright side for the first time my electric use is below the average for my type of house.
I can't for the life of me see how to bring the heating down any further. I would guess it's on about 3hrs per day now (one in the morning and two in the evening roughly) and the house is truly freezing when it isn't on - DH has taken to working in coffee shops so we don't have the heat on during the day but he is talking about working at home more for his next project which will put the use through the roof. And with this, I'm still wrapped up in fleecy dressing gown over my clothes and blanket round my feet and with a hot water bottle...this is costing us at least £5 a day by now....
So I'm resigned to having a carbon footprint the size of an elephants0 -

Is there a MSE carbon club I could join please? I just joined imeasure and have my first week's data:
"You have been taking readings for 1 week
Since you started measuring your total household -
Energy use is 75 kWh (Gas: 55kWh | Electricity: 20kWh)
Carbon emissions are 22 Kg CO2 (Gas: 11 Kg CO2 | Electricity: 10 Kg CO2)
Last week you spent:
£1.93 on gas
£2.40 on electricity"
That's a single person household, 1960s semi detached bungalow, running no heating, and having one tank of hot water for a shower each day heated by gas.
The costs on imeasure are way out. Since having to come off the Staywarm tariff - e-on quoted 25p a unit for electricity, more than double the imeasure rate. I am switching as fast as I can to a cheaper supplier!0 -
CW so sorry I missed you saying that in the middle of the email, I'm really sorry to hear your bad news, hope you're looking after yourself and the family...0

not doing too badly -- plenty to keep me busy. Army got elder son home late Wednesday, so regular "brotherly love" sessions going on in the house again :rolleyes2
plus I'm back to helping out with pre-school/school runs today, which means I have younger GD from 7:20am-5pm (except 9-11:30 Mon, and 9-2 Tues & Wed) and elder GD from 7:20-9am Mon, Tue, Wed and 8:30-9am Thur and Fri.
And that's on top of all the official paperwork etc :eek:Cheryl0
