Temperature was still 16 C but didn't feel as bad as the previous night so I am wondering if a higher humidity makes it feel chillier..

Was it windy? Our house always feels colder when it's windy. It blows in everywhere plug holes, letter box, etc:rolleyes:

The plan for me this year is to reduce the actual hours the heating is on.

One hour in the morning instead of two and two hours in the evening instead of 4. No heating on yet, get to Oct 1, then next target will be clock change time. Maybe change time of daily walk to later. Winter woolies on , double curtains up, now making quilts for windows. Thought to hang 'em like net curtains into the reveal and take them down in the a.m.
Have some exterior polystyrene shutters which will come out later.

    Good Luck with this:T:T:T

Let us know how you get on:D

Yeeek! just reminded me of my washing and its just started raining - thanks smf :T

I'm not sure if we had much wind that night and its a good flat for draught proofing too. I was wondering if the damp air makes it 'feel' colder.

Good shop today got a single 76'' by 90'' curtain for the bedroom or a doorway. Its a good quality M&S sample too for £10 and really thick. Its a bit long for a door and I'm a poor seamstress so probably do for the bedroom.
  • Hi guys

well back from the sunny med and feeling the cold more than ever unfortunately!

In our absence we used only 47 units of electric :) I'm less sure about the gas situation because the house was pretty cold when we got back and we had to have the doors open to get rid of the smell of paint so we had used the heat a fair bit over the couple of days after we arrived. And of course I didn't get around to doing a read till yesterday evening. So anyway gas usage is 48 units or 536kwh costing about £33.

In further good news we got our annual gas bill through while we were away and it has dropped by £200 despite prices rising. We have also managed to pay off all the arrears from our winter of using the living flame gas fire  and are actually a little bit in credit.

In bad news, while we were away our electric supplier announced price rises of 33% (which means that we will have to up our DD by at least £15 a month) and our gas supplier announced rises of almost 20%. I think we can probably absorb the latter since we were overpaying to cover the arrears but I'll have to keep a tight eye. I'm looking at almost £200 a month to cover our energy costs! I'm afraid DH will have to take his laptop and go work in Starbucks once it gets cold :)

And even though I was away I've still come 42nd out of 45 in the club and got a D so there is very little chance for me :(

Hope you guys are all okay, I was reading when I was away but not thanking cos my bb speed was too slow :)

Well eletric is up to just over 5 units a day and no change on the gas usage. Heating still of at present and trying to keep it that way.
  • Welcome back belfastgirl23 I went to north wales for a week and it was noticeably warmer returning from the med must have been really noticeable.

    WELL DONE Belfastgirl!
My long term plan to cut heating bills is to find a house with a log fire :D
