    many thanks Suzanna
I've managed to get us down to 18 units a day a cost of £15.61 for the week.
As i've been able to line dry the washing.
Im going to unpopular with the kids this week as i have set times on school nights when they can use there computer games. and now plan to continue this during the half term.
Hopefully i should be able to get the new fridge/freezer by then end of next month ours is 15 years old and using 4 units a day and badly needs replacing.
Now i've just got to convince EDF to reduce our DD as we have taken massive steps over the last 6 months to reduce our useage and become more carbon neutral

When I wanted to reduce my DD (due to drop in useage) the chap at the other end of the phone was very helpful (Scot Power). What he said was needed was a "forced annual review", so he took my latest readings (I'd done them that morning) and then did something on the system to ensure that bill did the annual calculations - and my D/Deb came down by £6/month, having dropped by £7/month the month earlier following a chat without the enforced review..... so effectively a £13/month reduction in total :T (I was £180+ in credit at the time though, so this probably helped)

Last Monday i-measure gave me a 'D' against all, and a 'C' against similar properties.
Readings on Tuesday showed a slight drop in both gas and electricity.
Badges today are showing as a 'C' against all, and 'B' against similar.properties.

My readings tomorrow and next week are going to be interesting - especially for the electricity. My DS went away for the week on Saturday, so whereas it would normally spike (half term, so loads of extra computer time), it should actually drop :D

  • Well, two C's this week. The results are a bit confused though as for the comparison group CO2 is 42 / 47 so should be 89% = D.

Total electricity was 20 kWh and gas was around 170 kWh.
  • Tori.k,

I'm not sure but I think the fullstop in your username is causing two thank you's on some posts. Very polite. :)

The children now have a time limit on when the internet is allowed on. We have 3 Ps3's and Wii , plasmas etc so you can imagine what I'm talking about. A year ago I wouldnt of dreamt of saying no to them about putting games consoles on but who's paying for all this!

You might be interested in this report - http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-356-2.htm

The wii has a max usage of around 18w in play, I would feel incredibly scroogelike to restrict play on grounds of cost. The rate I'm on the kids could play on it 8 hours a day (not that I'd let them) 365 days of the year and it would cost the sum of £4.30 a year. The savings are to be made in turning it off standby in wii connect mode, that is about 11w. Normal red light standby 0.7w.

The PS3's in comparison are power monsters:eek:
  • Anyone use an owl meter? I've procured one and stuck it on the laptop it's been on the lap top all weekend and hasn't nudged a unit yet. I've left the owl meter switch on so have not reset it.

Anyone know what the minimum power consumption it will reliably read is?

(There is no room around the tail to fit it to the main meter)

    Thank you for that. :)

I'm not concerned about the Wii as such it's the Tv's they need to be played on. Theres nothing wrong with children being children and playing out / board games etc. I restrict for cost yes but also I don't feel that its healthy to be on them all the time and my boys would be if they could. :) I know every familys different.

It is hard to get a balance but I do feel that we have got there and everyone is more than happy to do there bit.

    :D

Will Have to try this my DD was set before we had the E7 meter changed to a standard. just changing the meter dropped £30 a month off our bill as we didn't make much use of the cheaper electric, EDF say they wont look at it untill my review in october but i hope they will reconsider as we are £227 in credit at the moment.

    Friend for life i hadn't noticed....guess i've got tommy cooper syndrome :D

It is indeed, I think it must be a boy thing, my nephews are constantly on their games consoles whereas in our house with 3 girls it's more like me saying 'will you please play on the wii?' as it sits gathering dust in the corner.

Though did think was useful info for 'steering' them towards that console instead of PS3 on 'rainy days'.

Are all your t.v's plasma? our games are played on a 105w LCD but Plasmas I gather can be 3-5 times that. Scary stuff!
  • Girls must be more socialable. My girls a baby so she isn't using much electricity yet :) ..give her time

Yes plasma's. Although the tv's are limited they are still "allowed" 6 hours a day but they don't spend all that time on them.
