I've a feeling my electric is going to be quite a bit higher this week, we're ripping out our horrible old patio doors that turn the kitchen into a freezer and replacing them with french doors and a window today. Have awoken to find a lovely covering of snow and a forecast of high of 1 degree, feels like minus 6 :rotfl:
Going to be boiling the kettle a lot today I think!
Though will be worth it, just googled all the info on the stickers on the windows and they are pilkington energikare plus which will give the windows an A/B rating :T
You probably think I'm a little mad googling the info after we've bought them but we just left the sorting out to our window fitter friend, looks like he's come up trumps.:)
So no more 'freezer kitchen' after the final deep freeze today!0 -
Both gas and electricity have dropped this week - electricity down by 9kWh to 67kWh (surprised me as I've done extra washloads this week, and run my dryer twice!), and gas down by 80kWh to 285kWh (last time it was lower than this week was readings taken on 14th Dec)
Well done on the reductions!! Think it will be summer by the time we get our gas down to those levels:o
Don't know if anyone on I-measure is reading this, but I wonder if anything can be done to generate fairer comparisons to help us folk using gas and electric? Must admit thou it was nice to be rated A+ for a while when I was ignoring the gas meter:rotfl::rotfl:. I'll be entering my third set of gas readings tomorrow so I'm sure there will be a noticeable drop in grade:eek: Fingers crossed I will not be too dissapointed.
Off to do some cooking now....MFiT - T2 # 64start date: 1.7.09 MFW end date: 31.10.17

Well done on the improvements. Keep us updated on the drop in heating costs. We have very old windows so will be interesting to know what the savings are.MFiT - T2 # 64start date: 1.7.09 MFW end date: 31.10.17

Hi
This is my reading for this week
24 Jan 201035573£9.227037£6.46425110£15.68
Haven't been around for a while but am pleased to see that compared to the same date last year we have used less
25 Jan 200938780£10.077941£7.29466121£17.36
Still a C rating on both though-am hoping the new A rated fridge freezer that was delivered last week will help as it replaced one that was 16 years old!
Your household's total energy spend over the last 73 weeks is £818.49.
For week ending 24th January, 2010 your household spent £15.68 in total.
Gas meter (cubic metres): £9.22 - Main electricity meter: £6.460 -

We did this too in 2003 when it was snowing:snow_laug:santa2: We also had our door widened, so we had a night with just boards covering the gap - man it was cold:eek::D
Hope you're warm as toast now.0 -
Back on a C and D for last weeks readings. This week I used 119 kWh of gas and 25 kWh of electricity. Ranked number 34 / 53 on the carbon club. The gas sounds low compared with my spreadsheet so I will need to check.
I plan to switch off the heating on April the 1st.0 -
Two 'C's for last weeks readings.
But energy use crept up again for this weeks readings
Electricity up by 3kWh (now at 70, which is still less than 2 weeks ago), but gas up by 92kWh ( now at 377kWh) and the higher than the previous two readingsI'm blaming the weather for that, as we had snow again - and ended up leaving the heating on low for a couple of nights!!!
Snow re-appeared again yesterday afternoon, but rained in the evening so wasn't as cold - and the heating stayed firmly off outside the normal timer settings
ETA: Just realised I can get an annual comparison with this last set of readings.
5th Feb 2008 thru 2nd Feb 2009 saw electricity average of 13kWh/day, and gas average of 21kWh/day
3rd Feb 2009 thru 1st Feb 2010 saw electricity average of 9kWh/day, and gas average of 20kWh/day
So both are down, though the electricity by substantially more than the gas :TCheryl0 -

It's made a huge difference
Was initially a little concerened on Sunday morning when I got up and it was just as cold as ever but soon realised they hadn't quite got the job finished and I could see daylight round breezeblocks where the new bit of wall was built. A couple of tubes of silicone and that was soon sorted and all is well now. :j0 -
