Do you eat salad in Egypt (or abroad)?

Options
I'm off to Sharm on Sunday.

Normally (when abroad) I don't touch the tap water & stick to ice cubes made from bottled water.

BUT I do eat the salads.....

Should I be extra careful in Sharm?
Do or would you eat salads in Egypt?

I'm staying at the Reef Oasis Blue Bay which is 5* from the Thomsons Premier brochure. Would you eat the salads at a 5*?

I think it all depends on your own tendencies.
Do you have a caste iron stomach or are you delicate?

Some people can get away with it, others can't.

I probably wouldn't even if it is 5*.
I would sacrifice eating some things in order not to be ill on my holiday.

I always eat the salads when I'm abroad - even in places like Egypt, Turkey or Tunisia, I even clean my teeth in tap water. I have a pretty strong stomach and can't remember the last time food upset me, but I do tend to get "problems" (I'm sure you know what I mean!) whenever we go away anywhere due to changes in water - even within the UK! Its especially worse when going abroad and drinking bottled water as that tends to have a higher mineral content than I'm used to.

I think a lot of people who get stomach problems when they're on holiday blame it on the food, when in reality its often caused by heat, dehyrdation or drinking lots of mineral water that your body isn't used to.

I use bottled water to clean my teeth abroad.

IKWYM about people blaming the food when really its the 12 pints of lager or the 8 brandies that did it!

    But I hardly drink.

I have seen dodgy tums being blamed on all sorts though, like leaving AC on at night:confused: How can that give you a bad tum?

I think its the food or the drink usually, but I think the food is always blamed.
  • Hi I eat salads all the time in Egypt and have never been ill even on a cruise liner. If in doubt ask them if they wash their fruit and veg in bottled water.

use bottled water for drinking/cleaning teeth but would eat the salads in Turkey,Spain etc - I find that if you goto places that are used to tourists it is normally ok - I agree with others who have said that there can be so many reasons for a dodgy tum when abroad and does not have to be the food/water

I alwys eat salads abroad, clean my teeth in tap water and even have ice cubes in my drinks. However, like Vampgirl I have a cast-iron constitution and rarely get ill abroad.

If you're going All Inclusive, I would suggest that you really think about what you're eating. Some things may be on the menu one day and then make a reappearance disguised as something else the following day e.g. cooked meat one day then the same but in a sauce the following one.

On a Nile cruise, there was always pomegranate seeds at lunch and dinner and I'm convinced that it was the same bowl every day.

I went to Egypt a few years ago and got severe food poisoning and we only ate in the 5* hotel we were staying in.

I've drank the tap water in pretty much every country I've visited and been fine even though i often get upset stomachs at home! I've never been to Egypt though I have drank the tap water in Greece and Spain.
