Oooh I love a good cheap carvery!!seven-day-weekend wrote: »Ah, yes I see.

One of my favourite type of meals, but I'd begrudge spending more than £8 for it (that's my Xmas Eve price; £5 rest of the year!)
I had a little "tradition" going with somebody and we'd have a carvery every Xmas Eve at a particular old pub in Cornwall... but have now been informed it won't be happening this year as she's got a bloke
I'll miss that meal.0 -

You are only allowed to give £3000 per year as a gift which is free of iht. £3000 more if you havn't done so before.
£3k per parent, though, I think. So that's £6k between them....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

It was my son's 3rd birthday today. So he got to choose dinner. And he is obviously an MSE-er, because he absolutely insisted on having, "rice a peas a wee-corn". So corn on the cob, rice and peas it was....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
A carvery is a meal where you queue up and a chef carves you a choice of 1-2 meats from a selection of 2-4 of them. You are then handed your plate and you help yourself to the vegetables.lostinrates wrote: »What IS a carvery?
In most you can only do this once. Some others you can return to the vegetables and stock up a 2nd time if you want.
So you are helping yourself to as much/little as you want of everything rather than being handed a plate.
I love them. I can stack really high!0 -
there is a pub i know in lancashire and they provide the BEEEEGEST yorkshire puddings you have ever seen to fill the plate so you can't get a decent amount of veggies on there as well !! sneaky - i've stopped having the yorkshire ........0
