I'm sorry to hear about the lack of action by your b/f jojo.

When I told the story of my mother's partner I wanted to highlight the scale of misery that debt can cause when 1 person is being secretive. If only I had acted on my suspicions about this man but I thought that as long as my Mother was happy it was not my business. (He has now moved on to another older lady with her own house!!) I think DD would have seen through him.

I know that many people on MSE have solved these problems and forgiven their partners. I am happy that it has worked out for them.

Some people though drag you into the debt with them. The people who warned you to be careful were not trying to be nasty or bitter, there were some warning bells in your post.

I can't advise you about your b/f, I really do feel for you though....take care and good luck xx

OK, finally he's spoken to the debt collectors, although they called him while he was working so asked them to call back at 12. He told them he would set up a monthly standing order with them but didn't give an amount yet. Should he really agree to amounts and stuff just now or should he get the CCA and still contact Citizens Advice?

He should request the CCA, notice of assignment and statement of account. Make sure he doesn't give them his bank details. If he decides to set up a payment, he should do it so that if he decides to cancel later, they won't just take money from his account.

Also make sure he doesn't send them anything with his signature on it.

Have noit read the whole thread, but always get the CCA anyway, to prove that they actually have the right to collect the money.

So, bfs line is "Will set up an SO as soon as I receive the CCA
and letter confirming assignement." this is his legal right, to confirm that the DCA are the correct people to whom the pay the money.

Quite right, you came to DFW for advice about your debt, not about your relationship. Though some people might say that your debt and relationship are so interconnected that they can't comment on one without commenting on the other and that if you could just open your eyes, you'll save yourself a lot of heartache in the future.

Others may say that as the title of your thread is "Has my partner ruined our future?", that it was an invitation to comment on your partner and his secretive ways. They may say that while he hasn't ruined your future with this debt, he surely will in the future. They will state that it's one thing to simply run up debts, to bury your head in the sand and to try and hide it from other people, it's entirely another thing to add your partners name to a loan application form and not tell them about it.

I'm not one of these people, I think that you can have a long and successful life with this lovely chap and it's quite obvious that your debt problems and your relationship are not connected in any way. He'll never do this sort of thing again, of this I am quite sure. I have a good feeling about him.

    You are hilarious :rotfl: .

I must admit, I would be quite cautious of him from now on if he was my other half, but that aside, nothing in insurmountable, you may have problems in the futre getting decent interest rates as you/him will be classed as high risk, but what will be, will be.

Sit him down and have a straight talk to him and get on the right road from now on. Go to the citizens advice and get some help.

    Best of luck to you

Obviously I'm not George  but the reason is that unscrupulous types have been known to scan a signature and copy it into a finacial agreement you've never made.
