Pepper Plant help needed - MERGED

  • Just wanted to say that my biggest pepper (nicnamed 'The grandaddy'!!) is almost the same size as you find in the shops...

Unfortunately it's also the ONLY pepper on that plant...:rotfl: I grew it indoors and though I took it outside on sunny days, apparently only one flower was fertilized and so only one pepper has grown! I do have one plant with three on but they are still fairly small so far..

Just going to hope the grandaddy pepper turns red now!!!

    How is everyone else doing?

I found with my peppers that they turned red after I'd picked them. I don't know if that is what they're supposed to do or not, but it worked for me

My pepper plants have been in the greenhouse, but they are now too big (pokey wee greenhouse), so have brought some in. Only got a few flowers on them, but now I'm worried they won't get fertilised indoors. Should I have a dab with a paintbrush?
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

I grew my pepper plants outside since May, they were raised indoors, from seed in March. So far my 8 plants all have flowers and peppers, but the peppers are about half the size of the shop bought ones, so I am leaving them on the plants to hopefully grow and redden.

I wtaer daily and feed once a week with tomato plant food.
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)

I'm pretty much at the same stage as you are. Although I haven't been feeding them with tomato food, mmm I shall try that.
  • my plants have lots of flowers and a few peppers that are the size of peas, i have put them in my greenhouse, fingers crossed they start to grow bigger, also noticed that most of the leaves have holes in them can find anything crawling among leaves.
  • Over this year I ve grown a chilli plant with about 15 chillis on it and a bell pepper plant that has given me about 5 nice red peppers. I ve also got a Jalepeno plant that has decided to flower now after nearly being killed by something earilier in the year.
My query is are these annual plants or can i bring them into the house over the winter for them to grow bigger and better next year?

There are both a chilli and pepper thread. So my advice before posting is to use the search facility.

    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)
  • Just to say don't know a definite answer- looking at suggested thread I would say yes give it a go.
It is hard fora novice (like me) to understand the jargon ' overwintering'!?!? means nothing to me! So don't be afraid to ask even after searching.,
    Good luck!

Don't know if you ever got an answer to this question, but I read on a chilli website somewhere that to fertilize indoor grown peppers/chillis etc you need to just touch the flower stamens with your finger - you will see the pollen on there just do all the flowers in turn. I've been doing this with mine (all in the sunroom or greenhouse) & they have loads of chillies/peppers on them. None red, since we have had hardly any sun here in the north, but I am hopeful that they will be red eventually. If not, we have a bumper crop of green ones anyhow :D Had the first one tonight in a chicken fajita - very nice. Good luck....
