  • Thank you for the replies... I put slug pellets down about 4 weeks ago and they seem to have been ok healthwise BUT they are hardly growing at all...
I think they are a lost cause - does anyone know how long it takes a pepper plant to grow some fruit and how tall it has to be???

    heat
    sun
    rain
    time
    minerals

and 2 of those aren't around at the mo.

you could say the same about most crops; but we leave them be and see what happens.
  • Mine is still inside and probably about 7-8 inches but took an age to get to that height- stalled about 3inchs for ages. I'm just getting some flowers now. I'd say be patient and pray for some good weather!

I know a friend at work has planted some chillis outside and is having the same issues you are having and I have heard peppers take longer than chillis.

Mine have been outside for weeks now but still only about 6" tall. I have decided to just wait and see. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Mine aren't more than 9" tall but the leaves have got quite big (slugs have had a go unfortunately.
Something is happening at the top of a couple of my plants, I think flower buds may be developing :j :j
I have kept them in my mini greenhouse as we've had a lot of windy days as well as rain (oh how I wish it would go away!).
Apparently they like high humidity, so I keep a pot of rain water in with the plants.

BTW - the pepper plant I gave my friend as got tall and straggly with curled leaves - it doesn't like it in her house   - she's going to have to bin it unfortunately.

It'll be interesting to see what happens, the seeds only came out of a bell pepper we were having for tea.....

Everything seems slow this year. This climate is a changing! Leave them and let them have a chance to flourish later on. Mine are just setting flowers on some now at about 8" tall.

I have three sweet pepper plants in a pot and two have reached around 8"-9" but the third is still very small, around 5"-6". They are all producing flowers and fruit though but I wondered if maybe they'd benefit from being separated into individual pots or a growbag (I have a spare one) or would this possibly harm them at this stage?

I am trying chilis and peppers for the first time this year in pots outside. They grew really well to begin with but appear to have stopped. All the plants are flowering but the stems appear to be going black in places, is this the 'norm'?

Can the OP change the title of this post to 'Pepper Helpline' please.

    Thanks in advance.

Yes they would benefit. Stake them at the same time and give them a feed.
