dear Janey very sorry to hear of your loss, hang on in there, there are so many people on this site who know tons and where to find it. If there is anything we can find out that helps then I'm sure we'll rack our brain cell!

As advised I am going to cancell my Direct Debits to all non priority debts. However a thought just occured to me if the cancellation co-insides with ones imediately to be collected and they get returned I will be charged £30 per bounced payment, again more money I simply dont have.

GhostHunter if you call your bank first thing in the morning they will be able to tell you what is due out that day. Cancel anything you need to. If the company tries to take any DD then the bank will simply tell them you have cancelled and to contact you. It won't "bounce" and you won't be charged. It's only if the company tries to claim the DD with no funds in the account that you get charged. I have done this many times to give myself some breathng space. I always say that there was a mix up at the bank or that my "salary" went in late! I hope this helps

  • Hi

Thanks yes it does. Any good advice does. Need a set of false nails as I have worn mine away! ;)

    :j
  • just had an argument with Capital one and hung up. They mentioned the word default, told them I can only afford to pay £1 as even then I have more going out than coming in and thats just with my priority debts. She kept arguing am I going with National Debtline or cap 1 self help pack? I said I am going with both I admitted I am in debt and am not ignoring it trying to help sort it out, told them cccs and payplan wont help. So she demanded to know whether I was going with Nat debt line or self help pack, I said both their the same thing in principal arnt they? She said its either 1 or the other I need to make a note on your files. So I said sorry but I am going through both! and hung up.

Why do we continually have to cover old ground, if they have our notes shouldnt they read them through before calling?

I am feeling so low as if theres no end in sight.

Tried to call National Debtline but getting no reply, I know I am not their only customer obviously but I am really panicking and scared to death!

    Hello again ghost hunter,
Not sure i would pay card off in full to preserve already damaged credit rating if you have other cards that are likely to end up in default anyway. I think you are probably best off hanging on to your cash for now. If you are still thinking about bankruptcy then you may need the cash to pay for that.
  • Hi Abi

Thanks for that I do tend to agree.

Appologies to all yet again I seem to be taking over this thread today! :o Sorry. But thanks for the help and support.

Off now to get ready, going out to a friends wedding party tonight (not that I feel like it now) determined to try and enjoy the weekend.

Have fun everybody. Take care speak tomorrow.

DH and I have been in a DMP administered by CCCS for 21/2 years.
DH died suddenly last month. He had no insurance.
CCCS have been great. They asked me for a copy of the Death Certificate and they have removed DH's name from the DMP. I had an email from CCCS to say that I would be contacted by DH's creditors about his estate  which consisted of just under £4000 in his account which was the balance of an insurance payout we received following a house fire we had in Nov 07.
I have signed his car (worth about £1000) over to DS.
DH had no stocks, shares, property, jewellery or Ferraris.
Has anyone else had experience of what hapeens now?
I do not feel like dealing with this but will have to as I am sole executor. The thought of dealing with letters from creditors is awful.
CCCS say they are unable to help with this but have suspended the DMP until September.

I am sooo sorry to hear your loss.

    My thoughts are with you...

Janey, I am really sorry to hear of your loss. My thoughts are with you. You really have enough to deal with without all this money stuff. Please come on hear and shout, cry and whatever else you need to do. It helps to get it out.

Ghosthunter, is it an actual default or is it one of those notices that gives you the option to sort the account out within 21 days or else they'll issue a default? If so there are a few things you could do.

    1. You could pay it off as you say but then again you could keep hold of the money for a rainy day - stick it in an ISA or something so it gets a bit of interest.

    2. You could pay the amount they require to prevent the default - but then again your credit score is going to be trashed anyway with a DMP so what is a default in the grand scheme of things?

    3. Just pay them a token payment, add them to the DMP and let them go whistle.

I'm hoping someone else will have better advice for you. Well done on ringing National Debtline. I know you feel at the minute that everything is going round in circles but I promise you that everything will settle once you get a DMP off the ground. My phone never rings. Just do not let the barstewards get you down.

Well its good news from me. My Barclaycard charges claim was successful. I wrote to them asking for the £130 they had charged me. They replied saying that they were giving me £31 as a gesture of goodwill. I replied saying thanks for the £31 but I want the remainder plus 8% interest or I'll see you in court. Got a letter today to say they have credited £152 into the account. They are on my DMP so that is money off the debt. I've just looked at CCCS and Barclays get £9.67 a month from me. That means they will get just short of 16 payments less. :j Doesn't sound like a huge amount of money but it all helps. It kinds of feel good threatening creditors. :rotfl:
  • Janey, I am really sorry to hear of your loss. I know you will sort everything out in time and these guys are invaluable.

    To Janey,

Please accept my condolences on your sad loss.
  • Had a call from RMA today, have spoken to them a few times and advised them I amgoing through CCCS. today the man said was that my only option could i not borrow money from a friend/family member or even consolodate I firmly said no i had no intention of doing either. He then asked if i was looking to have the debt written off or was I entering an IVA i said no a DMP. He then said you have had a good payment history and been a good customer, the guy then said okay we will wait for your income and expenditure to come from CCCS then be in touch so i said okay then the guy said thanks for taking my call. Was an okay conversation but just a bit weird. Do you think the fact that he mentioned I had been a good customer will make them look more favourable or is that wishfull thinking on my part.
