It's usually every 3-6 months I start to get the phonecalls to my mobile and work insisting that I increase the payments and clear the arrears. I reckon it's just their "account managers" (now that's a laugh!) looking to increase their bonuses and pay for that holiday!

When they say "is it convenient to go through security details with you" - say no I'm at work and not allowed to take personal calls - they give you a number then and wait a little while for you to ring them, before ringing you back ;)

  • Hi

I received my 'paperwork' today from Payplan but none of it adds up! Has anyone else had this trouble? Dont know what to do now.

First they advise they cant help as its not in their interest because I obviously have no surpless money after paying the prority bills.

I then receive this paperwork that says I have more available than we figured out on the phone, they have missed out some monthly payments I make to Sky etc ,but put the wrong figures in the wrong boxes so it shows we pay £623.58 per month for pet insurance and have a monthly expenditure of £20.12 (when we actually have an expenditure of £623.58) so nothing adds up.

They show I have an income of £325 per month and Incapacity Benefit of £343.98 and Tax Credits of £668.98! I am not employed, so have no income, and the IB should be £300 and the TC (from my husband) around £320 a month!

Finally their advice on the phone and in their own letter to me suggests I try and make a token payment of £1 to each of my creditors, yet a couple the letters they have enclosed for me to send off to these creditors with my first offering of £1 say I am offering half my current monthly amount each month (eg £27, £11, £7.30p, £1.13p etc). I am very surprised and quite confused now!

I am now getting very confused, Payplan say they cant help, CCCS say they cant help and I dont have the confidence to do it by myself. :o

 though it would be all sorted this week.

    What do I do now?

    Many thanks.

I just say "I am not giving out my personal details to any stranger over the telephone as I cant trust anybody these days and thats what is advised by police not to disclose any personal info unless I know who its to anyone you could be anyone cloning or comitting fraud with my info, if you give me your details and a freephone number I will be able to contact you when its more conveinient! After all if you cant tell me the reason for your call without me passing security first then your acting suspiciosly. You dont need to reveal personal info to tell me I am in arrears, missed a payment or from ??? company!" I then hang up :rotfl:

If they call me on my mobile I ignore it, even if they leave a message, I tell them I no longer have a mobile number as I cannot afford a mobile phone anymore! If they continue to call my mobile my husband answers and gets annoyed claiming they dont know this person (me) who theyre asking for and never did, (if they question he says he purchased the phone at a car boot sale) and please stop calling him!

If they call me on the landline I will answer it or leave it go to answerphone but again I tell them I wont reveal my details! Works for a while but doesnt stop the harrassment unfortunately!

    Thanks

    ;)

I did that to a charity collector in the street wanting to sign me up to make donations. I said I won't give card details out in the street, he said you can give bank details  I told him if I was going to donate, I'd probably look it up on the web to read it all and then sign up there. He was quite happy with that and made sure I knew the web address ..... like I've got money to donate every month  wish I did have

    hi,
can i just remind all the new members who look like doing their own dmp, to look on the national debtline website and ask for the a4 pack to be sent out.they have some really good template letters about what to say to creditors when you start dmps, what to say to stop interest and loads of really good info that is useful to keep.
i still have mine from years back, even though im with cccs and i still refer to it.it gives step by step stuff and i think its invaluable.
    www.nationaldebtline.co.uk
the solicitors will have received my letter by now so the waiting is killin me.havent told dh till i know one way or other.i find thats the best thing with him.....to tell him about the prob then quickly say i found a solution before he has chance to explode.
its very scary at first but after a while, it does get better and as i get older, sometimes i do still panic rom the rare bad letter, like the recent one, but on the whole, i have got the "whats the worst that they can do to me????my health is more important than money."attitude.i have admitted that i owe it and im trying to pay it back so they should be thankful im not goin bankrupt cos they wouldnt get any.as long as i have a back up plan in my mind, i feel ok.
    love ilgd xx
People bring great joy into our lives..some by arriving, others by leaving.im trying to be one of the former, so please bear with :)

Just wanted to say BIG Hello and welcome to Very Silly and Scared - you have come to the right place. I am glad you are feeling better already - great bunch here.
I had a really pants days Monday and Tuesday (still a bit wobbley) however, after pouring my heart out on here, got as usual, lots of helpful and encourging advice and felt heaps better!

Quick update to all- after having loads of calls from Goldfish (up to 16 a day, it went quite for a couple of week.... anyway got home from work today, another 6 missed calls from them and then surprise surprise they called again.
I was brave and decided to speak. Spoke with a very nice lady who was just ringing to check where I was up to on my DMP. I explained that PP had sent them an offer and SOA last week so they should receive it any day now.
She said great, I will make a note and put your account on hold for another 14 days until we hear further!!!! Gob smacked!!!!!! :T

Sometimes, it is worth being brave and speaking to the creditors, it may not be the horrible call you think! (not all the time though) :o

  • Hi there
I just did a debt remedy plan on cccs and a dmp is the suggested route for me to go,It will definantly help free up some extra money because at the moment i just don't have any surplus for things like tax and MOT for my car
Annyway all being well and good i will be paying £239 over 5 years *cough 18k debt cough* :D
Feel a lot better about it now and hope that the paperwork arrives soon so i can get cracking 5 years is not a long time i'm 24 and just want to be able to get on with my life without being tied down owing so much i dont mind that it will take longer to pay off it will be more manageable for me this way

That sounds good debt free by 30! I doubt there are many 30 year olds that can say that.
  • 30? It's a long time since I was that young! ;)

Angel cake, we always speak to the creditors, always. And have had very few phone calls as a result. I know it's scary talking to them, but it's over a phone and they can't do anything and if they won't listen, either hang up or stick the phone in a drawer. (the latter is very satisfying).

misspixie (love your name) .. you are right, 5 years is not long and you are young so can start again once the debt is cleared. What an achievement. OH and I will be "cough" a certain age but hopefully with lots of life ahead of us to enjoy without the debt around our necks. WE have become so used to not having credit anymore and although things are tight at times, we love the fact that everything is paid for in cash and we are no longer racking up the debt.

    :)
