Well Ive finally admitted to myself that Im struggling to pay my debts, Ive totted them all up, and unsecured debts of £30k made my eyes water. Im only 26 yrs old and all the debt is on my own, which makes things straight forward. Ive got my own property, again on my own, and the mortgage is straight forward, 600 fixed for another 3yrs.

It was deciding to renovate my property when all the money just started to flood out of my bank. I got credit cards and overdrafts to cover it all. It all means that after paying bills, I have about a tenner left ! Ive always paid my bills ontime but its now to a point where i cant rob peter anymore because theres nothing left in.

Contacted CCCS today to put together a DMP. I owe £30k unsecured through the usual. I earn £2150 net, and can afford a monthly payment of £700. All straight forward and I look forward to finally being able to breathe easy. I guess theres a hard few months to get through first.

Ive read every page of this post and the help has been amazing, I just dont think being in debt is taboo anymore, life is just so expensive these days and people have finally realised it.

I shall be keeping you all up to date with my progress.........

    Paul........a daft geordie !!

Grr I hate shopping and I hate shoppers and so nah I hate it all!

Same here, then I worked out I hate shopping because of the shoppers ;) So I started to go to smaller supermarkets that had less people in them at lunch times and found it wasn't too bad.

Co-op is good in that it's huge and empty but with only 2 check out staff and the stuff is a bit more pricey

Food shop at the weekend??? Not likely - and especially not with the kids or OH in tow "can I have...?" No way!!!

I get a sainsbug delivery once a month (just after payday) with a load of the tins and heavy stuff :p

Then Aldi and middle size tesco are about a mile walk from work (near 4 charity shops where I get most of my clothes now) so sometimes I walk it too, sometimes I drive the car down there :o

I went to Lidl on Sat evening about 8pm and it was empty apart from some weirdos - so would recommend going then - no queues ;) I usually go there on a Sunday morning and leave OH with the kids, just for a nose about really but it's a bit busier then (but not as bad as saturday afternoon).

    Hi Paul, welcome.

You sound like I was (not the mortgage bit though) with robbing peter to pay paul. My debt was more than yours and I was still living with my parents when I racked most of it up :o

It isn't always easy, as you must have read, but a DMP really is the best thing I ever did with my debt :)

You do get some worry starting off, (make sure you have a non-connect bank account) but it soon settles down and then you wonder whether every item of post you used to get was a bill reminder and wonder where they have all gone!!! :D

i went to lidl 2 weeks ago and thought it was really expensive for some of the stuff.might as well have gone to morrisons for the brands i know cos they were cheaper than the foreign value ones.
you know its getting bad when nettos prices go up.ive started using the supermarket price comparing site to have a quick look before we go.i think tescos is getting really dear.i dont mind morrisons and asda as they always seem to have loads of offers on stuff that you buy normally,i hate the ones that they do that you wouldnt dream of buying anyway but they try to con you into thinkin you have got a great bargain.
YM.....doesnnt matter what you say....we still are jealous and want fish and chips by the sea, especially when the weathers good ,like today.:).....when i win the lottery/inherit a fotune/invent a must have gadget/write a bestseller......im going to live by the sea and live happily ever after.
forgot to include...become an MP,cos they are rollin in it and its like money for old rope:)

Newlywed you should have a degree in shopping psycology! We are only one car and 5 to shop for. Only Tesco and Asda will deliver and I hate Asda stuff. I do get all the dog food and washing powder delivered once a month and store it in the garage.

I reckon you are right though it is hubby who pushes it up with his treats - in saying that he has decided he has middle aged spread now so lets see if the costs fall!

Indeedy, Im ok with the living costs, and im luckily in a well paid job, but its just got a bit much recently. Ive just opened up a new basic bank account and a pre paid card thingy, so its all unconnected from the debt.

Where do you stand if you get a pay rise etc, are creditors entitled to it and/or i it just wise to increase your payments anyway?

What woke me up to it was that sooo much of my net pay was actually paying interest!!! So hopefully i should get sorted, so glad ive finally done it.

    Happy days ahead i hope

the worst thing about shopping for me is when they have really good stuff on offer.....like the 50p morrisons offer last w/end....but its all gone.they know its goin to be mega popular so why havent they increased their stocks ready for the stampede so ppl dont have wasted journeys????......and when its short code, instead of knocking a few pence off the "going out of date today" stuff, they wait till 5 to midnite before they take a reasonable amount off.....and i want to see better /longer sell by dates on stuff(2 or 3 days is no good)...
...should have been a supermarket tycoon....???!!!:)
