Mind you since being on the DMP I have learnt to appreciate things a whole lot more and the choices i make now are informed and based on need not want. It will be so lovely to have spare cash and no debt!!!

Congratulations on your new job!!!! :T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T

I think maybe wait and see what happens when your payments go up and go from there. You've enough to think about at the moment with a new job starting ;)

I agree about the DMP teaching you to appreciate things more. I appreciate every day out, every takeaway (about 2 trips to the chippy a year now ), every cinema trip and every single present no matter how small. All things I kind of took for granted before :o

I just hope that when I'm debt free I still remember and appreciate it all (and remember to check out the charity shops for books and clothes still :D)

If you are worried about interest being added I would continue to pay your dmp payment as normal and save the extra and offer as a lump sum to clear debts in a few years time.

  • Hi

I need to open a new bank account before I start a DMP (probably by myself) and have been advised the only 2 banks not connected with any accounts, loans, credit cards I already have are HSBC and Natwest.

Can anyone tell me which would be better to use (can I use both?) and I would prefer to do it all online as its often not easy for me to get to local branch as I dont drive and town is too far to walk.

    Many thanks.

    Thanks Newlywed and mogminnie!

I've got loads to sort out, can't even remember what the salary is for this job, I applied for so many:eek: But, even going on the very least it could be my payments will increase from £240 to £700 a month:T. It feels great to spend the summer holidays knowing that come the start of the new school year I will be employed. Just need to sign the contract (waiting for HR to get their bums into gear) and get tax credits etc sorted then I'll be raring to go!

Being on a DMP has been sooo good for me and I feel so much more able to deal with things now. I have managed for such a long time on so little its gonna be great:j
    DEBTS @ 1/1/07 - £25,800:eek: DEBT @ 04/05/11 - NIL
    FINALLY DEBT FREE - 4TH MAY 2011:j:j:j:j:j

I called Co-Op to apply for my cashminder account. They sorted it all out without me having to go into a branch and I'm no set up with my account online. All really easy to sort out.

Jvic - do you get a visa debit card with this type of account?

Just thinking of setting myself up another parachute account in case of Abbey/A&L/GE Money issues - just in case ;)

    Hi

Are Co-op linked to Barclays, Halifax, Nationwide, Lloyds TSB? If not then I will look into banking with Co-op. Just Payplan didnt mention Co-op when suggesting I eithre used Natwest or HSBC.

    Thanks.

I set the account ip as my previous one was with Natwest and I had an overdraf and loan with them. Didn't want them taking my pay so set up the cashminder and ow my pay goes in there.

I've got a Visa Electron Card. It's not ideal but you can use it in many more places than you used to be able to when I was younger. I haven't been put out by only having a Visa Electron yet anyway.

No Cheque book or overdraft (which isn't an issue for us anymore is it? )

Sorry, I have absolutely no idea. I didn't look into whether the accounts were linked to any of my debts when I set it up (bit silly I know). I'm sure someone else will be able to help though.
