MurrayMint - don't give up.
You need to phone GE tomorrow and find out what's happening there - have you got any other accounts with them?
Get that sorted and you may well be pleasantly surprised....
Then when you've sorted that, phone CCCS and ask their advice about Halifax. Surely they shouldn't be adding to your debt if they have agreed to DMP Payments.
It's no fun, is it - I know....especially with all the bloomin' adverts on tv reminding you that it's almost Christmas...!
But you're not alone in this situation, and it can be sorted out - it's not the end of the world, you just need to remain patient and speak to GE and Halifax.
Report back tomorrow and let us know what they've said
Well... this morning I've spoken with GE CC and they have accepted my DMP and the interest should have been halted 20 days after the first CCCS payment reached them - 25th September. So my October statement will show some interest, but there shouldn't be any on the November one. She said the interest should be stopped but there is a fault in the system and it is still being applied. They will look into it and get the Nov interest refunded, but said if the next statement shows interest I should phone them back as it should have been sorted by then! Yey # 1 :j:j:j
I then called Tesco CC and they said that my account was defaulted 8th October and the interest was stopped from then on. As it is defaulted they do not send out statements as standard and my internet access is stopped. But they will restart my statements, as I would like to check that the money is reaching them and the debt is reducing. So that's another one sorted!! Yey # 2 :j:j:j
My DH is on strict instructions that when he gets in tonight he will call the Halifax (his account) and speak with them. I think my positive experiences have encouraged him, as he (I think) avoids the calls, or answers them and just stalls people rather than being proactive :p
BAD NEWS:
My water company called round on Thursday to say that they've just read my meter and they think we have a leak. We've used > 500 units since May-08 @ £1.45 per unit :eek::eek::eek::eek:
They came out this morning and confirmed there is a leak, but it's inside the property (although there's no damage showing yet, but it's somewhere beneath a tiled concrete floor in my kitchen). Last week I called my insurance company who said I was covered and just call back after the water company had confirmed. I called back today and was told I am only covered for water damage within the property, not for any damage caused by "trace and locate" or repairs.!!!! I was shocked and very angry. She apologised for the incorrect info last week, but said only damage already caused by the leak would be covered. I said "so I have to wait for enough water to leak to cause damage to the property before I get any help?" and she told me that this would then be treated as a fraudulent claim as we knew there was a leak and didn't fix it. Argggghh. I just about managed to end the call before bursting into tears.
The only saving grace is that the water company man from this morning told us - unofficially - that we should be able to get the debt written off. Once we've fixed the leak, we need to call them and they will come and do a couple of meter readings, work out our average consumption and then everything over and above should be cleared. Thank god for that! Can you imagine, having to find £750 + the cost of fixing this leak _pale_
End of rant

Hi everyone
Hope you dont mind me posting - I've just received my initial DMP pack from CCCS and I've got a few questions about my creditors.
I have 9 creditors;
Welcome Finance
Loan Store
Littlewoods
Kays
Lloyds
NatWest
Capital One
2 x payday advance companies
I reckon I can deal with most of them - I've opened a new bank account and changed my salary to my new one, cancelled my direct debits etc.
However, I'm not sure about the Loan Store one and my payday advances.
I remember last Christmas when I defaulted on my Loan Store payment, I got a phonecall to say that if I didn't pay my monthly installment, they would issue an earnings arrestment. Does anyone know anything about these and can the still do it if I'm in a DMP?
Also, if anyone has had any dealings with payday advances I'd be glad of any advice - e.g. do I send my letter to the head office or the brach I got them from?
Thanks for any help. It's taken a lot for me to finally face my debt but I'm starting to feel better for taking the initial steps.

Hi, I haven't got experience of all of your creditors but congratulations on facing up to your problems.
Welcome Finance - Never dealt with these
Loan Store - Or these, sorry.
Littlewoods - Stopped my charges + interest quickly.
Kays - Not dealt with Kays but I think they are the same as Littlewoods aren't they?
Lloyds - Again, they're not one of my creditors
NatWest - They didn;t acknowledge my DMP in writing for months but have finally accepted for 6 months
Capital One - Stopped interest and charges quickly
2 x payday advance companies - I have heard terrible things about these companies being difficult. If you search I'm sure you'll find more information on how to deal with them. But you need to try really hard to get these paid off ASAP.
Good Luck on your journey. Things will get better now you're dealing with things, it might not seem like it at 1st but it will get better.DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 19017/05/08 - Total on DMP: £10025.7007/05/14 - Total on DMP: £1666.20 DFD: July 2017!!Baby Tomos born 5th June 2009 - 6lb 5oz :jWeight Loss Target - to lose 60.8lb by NYE 2015 - 37.6lb TO GO0 -
Thanks Jvic
I have tried to search for other posts about people who've dealt with payday advance companies and i can't really find any info - I suppose i'll find out for myself once they receive the DMP forms, but I must admmit I'm not holdind out much hope.
I'm worried about them trying to get earnings arrestments as this will mean they will contact my employer (embarrassment) and if they do that then I wont be able to pay my arranged installment to CCCS.

They can't attach to your earnings without a court order. It's a scare tactic.
For this to happen, they would have to first get a CCJ, the court would decide how much you should pay and then, only if you fail to make the payments the court decides, they would have to go back to court for an attachment order.
They can't have what you've not got.0 -
I've never had a threat of earning arresstment so can't really advise there. What sort of a company are Loan Store? I can't see how they can threaten this and other creditors don't?

There you go. Nothing to worry about. They're just pulling out all the stops trying to scaare you. This will happen a lot with lots of creditors. They will threaten court action, doorstep collectors etc but they are just threats. When I got threating letters, I wrote them a firm letter saying that If I continued to get threating phone calls and letters I will report them for harrassment and so far it seems to have worked.DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 19017/05/08 - Total on DMP: £10025.7007/05/14 - Total on DMP: £1666.20 DFD: July 2017!!Baby Tomos born 5th June 2009 - 6lb 5oz :jWeight Loss Target - to lose 60.8lb by NYE 2015 - 37.6lb TO GO0 -
Thanks so much for your replies. You've made me feel a lot better.
Hopefully I can sort this on my own. (with the support of fellow MSEr's:T )

Hi all,
We have another CCCS counsellor phoning us tomorrow to go through another interview regarding dh's self employment business and how much he makes.
Today we've received letters from Halifax and Abbey credit cards saying that we've not made a payment even though we sent them a token payment 2 weeks ago and a letter to say we're starting a DMP. I'm getting quite a bit scared about these letters and they say we've to ring them even though we've asked for correspondence through letters only.
I suppose this is the start of all the fun now. We've kept all our payments upto date apart from this month.
I think I shall send them another letter to tell them that we're starting on the DMP. What do you guys think?
