Hello Cocker - totally understand the frustrations, and i can relate to your post, thanks for sharing , it will help others im sure, in the end it all helps us all,
I just wanted to ask you if you have requested a copy of your credit card agreements from all your credit card companies? If not, then i would get yourself a copy, because if they dont supply you with it, then the debt is unenforceable in court, with the amount of debt collections agencies being sold your various debts onto, im suspicious if anyone still has the original cca,
I would have thought that the company you are with would have known that
Hi Maz,
I am in the process of obtaining all the CCA's from the various creditors. I've instructed Harrington Brooks to do this for me. Not got any back yet. I've only just started reviewing my DMP. It is fast approaching 1 year since it started and i've decided to see if I can reduce the amount of debt a owe quicker than the 16 years Harrington Brooks said it would take.
I do honestly think Harrington Brooks are doing a good job for me, but must admit that after reading through some of the posts on here, it is possible to manage it yourself. I should be more confident. I successfully reclaimed the ppi from First Plus on my own, using only this site. I really use them for ease as I lead quite a busy life and find it hard to find the time to contact my creditors myself. I can just email them in the evening and they do it all for me.
I think after all my ppi and charge reclaiming is complete, I will consider going solo.

Thanks Andytwonames - I didn't think CCCS were out to get me (others may be, or is that just my paranoia kicking in), but I just wanted to make sure I'm doing the correct things.
Can I ask you all another question please? (sorry, I'm full of them, I promise they will tail off ... eventually :-) ) My ex-husband and I have a current account still in both names but I don't access it and haven't done so since we separated three years ago. It was set up when we bought a house together five years ago to pay the mortgage and bills; since we split up I have had nothing to do with that account at all (or the mortgage), as far as I'm concerned it's his account. I don't access it, I don't pay anything into it, I'm living at a totally different address. It HAS still got my name on it though, even though in every other respect it's nothing to do with me - do you think any of my creditors are going to try to drag this account into the dealings of my DMP? I can't ask my ex (we're still married, just haven't divorced yet - can't afford it, truthfully!!) to take my name off the account as I do NOT want him to know about my DMP; I had so much grief from him over the years about my finances that I am simply not prepared to get any more from him!
I can't think why they would drag this account in (it's not a savings account, I don't contribute any money to it, and don't access it) but I thought I'd just ask you good folk what you think?
thanks (again again)

The only reason CCCS need to know about a bank account is the one to set up your DMP direct debit from. If you add an overdraft as one of your creditors then yes, CCCS will need to have details of that account so don't worry about this old one.
Rayday, thanks for that if I know where you were I would send a tin of choccies round to your house xxx I was just a bit miffed when reading all that from Lloyds after I had asked about cancelling my ppi. Is this their way of avoiding the situation of cancelling my ppi and defaulting on a loan? I know its different cancelling ppi on a loan than a credit card.
Really desperate help required here guys, I can't see smilies anymore!! All I see is red crosses in boxes any ideas? sorry totally off topic but I'm not moving out from this thread cause they might be nasty!!DMP support thread member 211 :cool:I'm only here to get some medals......honest!0 -
I'm sure if you are going for a DMP that you can't have a current account and it is a breach of your agreement if you take on any more credit. If the account is still in your name and it goes overdrawn (whether your fault or not) you would be in breach of your DMP and it could be cancelled. I think this seems to be what I have read and been told.
If there is a mortgage in your name too, you really need to sort this out as well. Whilst you have joint accounts/ mortgage you are still financially linked to your ex and he in theory has a lot of control over your creditworthines (is that a word!!) Really you need to break those ties. If he gets in trouble with the account or mortgage then so do you!
Hope this is of some help. Do you still talk to him? You might have to bite the bullet and just say you want things to be 'official'. My mum and dads divorce lasted for ages but she got a new lease of life when the breaks were all finally made. Good luck! xx:eek: LBM August 2008:eek:Total debt £51914.74 Paid off so far £47,611 DMP started November 08 Current debt £4,303.73Proud to be dealing with OUR debt ! :T0 -
hiya all
looks like its been a few busy days.
Cocker, - just wanted to show a little bit of understanding from my post and im glad you took it okay, i totally understand what you are saying if you feel, that the harrington bunch have helped you but look at what you have achieved yourself, but of course i understand work and life balance.
If you do decide to go it alone, we are fab on here and we will help as best as we can and all i can add, i dont know all the answers but im learning something new everyday and this forum and as well the consumeractiongroup forum, have been lifesavers to me in my journey.
i just thought to mention the cccs or payplan charities if you didnt want to go fully solo, but at least you were not paying anyone fees. May be a good option for you to start of with with your busy life.
Good luck with what you decide but keep coming back here and im sure we will help and support yoiu any other way we can
Sarriep, - i hope you didnt mind my post in responce to tressls earlier on yesterday i think, i was sure you would come on and explain - and i hope i didnt step on anyones toes in my post
-Rayday, - oh dear my friend - my thoughts are with you and the family, im sure you you will get through this, we are here to support you as you are always here to support us, im looking at that thread too that newlywed gave, brill.
Althea, - why dont you just contact the branch and just explain that you wish for your name to be removed from the account and im sure the bank will contact you husband and it can be sorted. You dont need to contact him im sure the bank will contact him advising him that you wish your name to be removed and then he can decide if he wishes to still keep the acccount as a sole account or to close it
this way no need to explain anything to your ex
