did a whole big reply zoe, but it disappeared into the ether. I will be better when I am in a proper home. But also the insulation/dampness thing is regularly reported in the nz papers and I think it is something of interest to uk based forum members

I just got back from Sydney, Australia, but we stopped at Auckland, New Zealand on the way to Heathrow. We had to take off our shoes and most of us were hand searched. I purchased a Boomerang for someone I knew, and they took it off me and New Zealand. Apparently I'm allowed on the plane with it from Australia to New Zealand, but not allowed to take it into the UK due to the type of wood it's made from?...
Enjoy your trip.0 -
Hi Chev
Just popped on to see how you're doing and whether you've reached dscisions on the job and the house.
Ref: Renting out the house over here....when the letting agent came round to take on the house I am due to move out of next month, she told the landlord that there is a glut of rental properties on the market at the moment because people can't sell so are renting out instead....hence rents are coming down. Landlord was advised to reduce the rent here by almost £200pcm (8%) for next occupant if he wanted it let quickly.
Hope you're OK....and warming up a bit!
Love

Hi Chev,
Good news on your OH's job that is one step nearer to 'normality' isn't it? And if you can get the house and your own belongings then it will start to feel more like home which in turn will help you to settle.
If its any consolation we were forecast torrential rain and thunderstorms last night - must admit that didn't hear a thing so not sure if it was as bad as forecast.
Good luck with renting your house out, have you tried checking on Rightmove to see what the local rents are in North Bucks for your sort of house?
Lots of love to you all,

Well its all been go here, not least with the weather causing all sorts of problems here. Very very wet and windy. But this morning is why we came, beautiful sunshine not a cloud in the sky (well for the next 5 minutes anyway:D )
So OH decided to take the job that was nearer to here, but less pay. The other company delayed the meeting to see if they wanted him by a week, and that was just too much of a wait. I hope that once we have got a months worth of bills, that we will be able to see whether this is going to be enough to live on or not.
We also have decided on a house and had our contents delivered last Wednesday. 216 boxes:eek: ! What on earth were we thinking of bringin all this carp with us!? On the plus side all of the breakables have made it here, including some really sentimental pieces. We are still going to have to claim though, as one of our dining room chairs is broken, and, more annoyingly one of the chest of drawers too. This has survived being used as a trunk on journeys to and from India in the days of the Raj, but couldn't be handled correctly to get to here. GRRR. So I hope the pay up, cos we can't use it at the moment.
Even so I have been reunited with my clothes (well some of them), and I have gratefully taken 3 more jumpers, so that I don't look so frumpy anymore!!! Really given me a bit of a boost that has.
Went to register with the dr today. Scarily enough not all of the meds that I am on are available here, including my anti depressants    . So I have made the big (and scary) decision to come off them and see how I do. So the dr has said to start taking the tablets every other day, and see how I go. I mean there is never the perfect time to come off these things, but I have a new home, and town to play (!) in, my OH has a new job, my boys are in school and for the main part enjoying it. Yes I have to get my residency sorted out, but why should that be harder for me than for any other british person here? So now is the time GULP.
So I hope I will be OK.
fingers crossed

wow chev...loads going on at the moment, hope the tabs think works out ok which I am sure it will.
Any news on the house yet? Is it worth reducing the rent...if you havent seen much of the news lately you wont know the uk is almost in financial meltdown - ok so exagerating slightly but its still better to reduce quite a bit and get a tenant in so you only have to top up and not pay another full months mortgage.
Cant belive you have so many boxes over there!!! Can you do a car bootie to get rid of any think you have realised you dont really want/need? Teach them the ways of a money saverDFW 228 LONG H 68

Hi Chev
:hello:
Great to hear all your news and so glad things are looking good (apart from the chest of drawers etc  )
Ref: the tablets...go for it Hun and don;t be frightened. You can do it.(Wol has) ..and you're cutting down gradually and under medical supervision. It will be OK, you CAN do this. Try ginseng, Vit B slow release...and walks to get the sunshine on your face each day (bit difficult if weather is carp I know!). And if it all gets a bit overwhelming then Pm me for hugs/moral support/virtual au pair etc etc.
As you say..this is the start of your new life.:j :j
Big hugs Hun and thinking of you

Hi angel, thankfully still can get bbc on the web over here, so no it is all going down the swanny to put it politely. But we had a text to say that one couple has come back for a second look so fingers crossed on that.
There aren't car boots as such in many places, but it IS common to have garage sales here, so I might do one of those, once I know what I don't want/need!

Had an update. The phone went. Imagine my total and utter surprise when it was the dr. After picking myself up off the floor, she told me that she had found out that my anti d meds are available under a different name, so we are still going to wean me off them, but at a slower pace. The only reason she was going with the taking every other day thingy, was because she thought my meds weren't available here. This would have meant taking me off these anyway so as to put me on another brand.
Feel much better about this more gradual approach, and I think OH will be more ok with it too. He has put up with so much over the last 3 years, so he has to be in on the decision too!
So less scary than it was so phew!
