Hiya Chev! I have only just seen your thread and it looks like you are online now. How can that be? Isn't it the middle of the night?

I'm glad you got there safely, hope you are enjoying the 'holiday' before your OH starts work. Happy birthday to DS - I have been on one of those Duck tours on the Thames by the way!

The MSE clock says 11.52 am and is it 10.48pm here, so not the middle of the night, but our day is nearly over.

we are pretty set on Orewa which is up the coast from Auckland and North Shore city. It has a school that after one look round DS1 wants to go to, and DS2 has a strop leaving! It is a shame really as DS2 has been at school for 1.5 terms in England but now can't attend school again until he turns 5 in december. We are going to see the other school tomorrow, and maybe look at another couple of areas. So fingers crossed we can find somewhere that will take all the stuff in the container!

Well today the weather started off truely appalling! It splonged it down ( I had to make up a new word as it was so much of it, and being driven by the wind too!). But the back end of the day was better.

We saw our first rental home today:eek: . After all the hoops we had to go through to get our home ready, ie redecorate, get the windows cleaned, professionally clean the house, get the carpets redecorated, this place looked really shabby. And it was such a shame as the location was fantastic, but the house needed its carpets cleaned or replacing, there was only the oven in the kitchen! Etc. Ok the rent was cheap, but even so. We won't be living there.

I just hope we are not being too fussy.......

Finally heard that the money from the states is coming through to NZ. We have been getting a bit tight on money as we have mortgage etc still to pay in the UK, and no flipping tenant in yet. We did have one couple come around, but they said that our lounge was too small for their furniture:eek:  . This is a lounge that can fit in a full length bookcase, tv, plus a 3, 2 a 1 piece suite with room to spare, and it is too small!! Wow they must have a lot of furniture!!!

Anyway I have to go as I only have a few minutes left, and still things to do

North Shores had some bad press over recent years but its not a bad place to live really (Ive a brother living there)...Have you emigrated or are you on an extended holiday???

Hi Kiwi, it is really our attempt to settle here, though we have come for 6 months initially. But our contents are in a container on the high seas as we speak so we really need to get our act together

I went to NZ a couple of years ago and absolutely fell in love with it. Have a few friends living in Auckland and they all love it too. In fact, I was just thinking about my trip today as I was looking at pictures of glaciers (but they're on the south island - well worth a trip one summer holidays!) ...

    enjoy! I'm very very jealous!

Orewa is beautiful and come summer you will love it !!!! Its a classy down to earth place and one I used to love visiting.....Just north is Hatfields Beach - great on a nice winters day to stroll and a haven in the summer....Parakai Springs and also Waiwera Thermal pools nearby and then for an even slower pace of life, theres always Whangaparoa just down the coast lol....Another beaut place (if your looking for a day out) is further up the coast ( I think you turn off SH1 at Warkworth) is a place called Goat Island....its a nature reserve and a hotspot for snorkling and diving....anyway sounds like your settling in - your 'splonged' down made me laugh lol....when its proper chucking it down, the term you will often hear is its 'heaving it' or its 'persisting it down'......oh and you can never be too fussy when renting.....unfortunately we too have people who dont treat whats not theirs with respect - ive rented many a place not fit for the pig!!! sometimes a rental agency can be expensive and private landlords are ok - but like anywhere, dont let them take you for a ride.....local dairys often have places to let notices in the windows etc....you'll have a blast once you have your own space lol......

    I'm jealous too!!

We're going to Australia Xmas '09 to visit my mum's family and we will be looking into the possibility of emigrating there. I really cannot bear the thought of living in this country for too many more years
