I have to say I just don't get it either. Why do some women think they have the right to shaft a man for the rest of his life, just cos they once were married.

Hope it all goes well kevin, im sure it will be just a formality for the judge to stamp the paper work and then the OR will deal with it all just like the rest of us do.

Keep us informed of how you get along and any updates. If you need any more advice we'll try our best.

  • Good Luck Kevin.

I know all about the divorce thingy! Might be worth getting yourself a good divorce lawyer once it comes around. Hopefully, she'll keep getting bad advice!

I'm still dealing with the fallout of my divorce, but needless to say, the Spousal Maintenance is usually for 5 years (sometimes more, sometimes less) OR until she moves someone in, whichever comes first. I've also got to pick apart my pension (which I guess you don't). Obviously, the kids have to be paid for until they're 18. I do think I'm very fortunate that I have a very regular, very organised timetable for my kids (As well as still getting on OK with my ex).

I'm still shocked that HMRC went ahead and did it anyway! By my reckoning, if the OR takes 70% of the 2k (I fear it will be more) plus the 60k tax (NT code?) plus the 50k, you'll have paid them off and more in 17 months.

Or am I missing something here?

never been in the position concerning spousal maintenance, but I think the rules are a bit outdated it was very relevant when a woman stayed at home and raised the children, and kept house and had no career or no way to earn for themselves, in this day and age though with all the equality and political correctness it should really be scrapped. It amazes me that its allowed1!!
"Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"
