  • Blimey, man at NU did indeed phone back. Shame the quote given was pants. We have been given our 30 days notice and have already sorted out a quote with another company at least £100 cheaper - goodbye NU.:p

    Good luck everyone else.

Make sure you get your no claims bonus sorted. They cancelled my insurance with a few months left to run, but sent me a letter with no no claims including a full year for their cancelled policy year.
  • That's what I was worried about....I"m 4 yrs no claims...and I would have got my 5 yrs at the beginning of jan...if they cancel now, I don't want to go back to 4 yrs...as I feel that's unfair. Insurance comes down considerably at 5 yrs.

Should I be worried that nobody has yet contacted me? I only got that letter months ago saying someone will be in touch in future...june or july time I think, and in the mean time I'd just be paying the base rate.

Also...what happens to the initial outlay....I paid around £50 initially...will I get a proportion of this back atleast...maybe the figure divided by 12 months, times by however months I should have had left?

Reluctantly, I think that you should contact NU or ask Beccus to have a look.

As much as I want NU to admit that they have messed this up completely and how they are remedying the problems they have caused, I don't think it will happen.

I have recieved my cancellation document. The cancellation date is six days before the renewal date of my policy.

So much for sending me a back dated cert if I got "a pull", as mentioned in my previous post. If I had have had "a pull" I can see that it would have taken hours to resolve, especially on a policy that has been cancelled 6 days before it should have been.

Before you contact them I would make sure that you have checked out alternative quotes. Most people (including me) who have posted on here have recieved better quotes. It seems that you can bank on a call of 20 - 40 minutes, and if you can get it all sorted in one call (renew or cancel) then you will not have wasted so much of your life.

As far as getting the initial outlay back, I was told that this was a deposit premium (I think that was the phrase used) and not refundable, in full or in part, and regardless of the fact that they had made the decision not to proceed with this type of policy.

I am really disappointed that I feel this way about NU. The decision to withdraw from the market is fine with me, it is what has happened next. Also, I am disappointed by the fact that they have lost not only our car insurance, but could also be losing our house and various (not inconsequential) life and investment business.

I have just received a most abrupt letter from NU saying my PAYD is cancelled wef 3rd October and thet are sorry to lose me:rolleyes:  also saying not to cancel the DD as there may be extra charges incurred. Too late NU, I had already cancelled and, wait for this, received a letter from NU saying that I had cancelled my DD and to contact them I rang my bank who confirmed that the Sept payment had been paid and received. I then rang NU to tell them and they said, it's ok, they send these letters out as a matter of course. What a waste of bl****y time. They need to get trained in customer service. Anyway, goodbye NU, they really have mishandled this issue.

The initial payment was part of the annual base fee and was described on my internet quote as such ( otherwise the monthly fee would have been slightly higher) and as such if the policy does not run its full term, surely a pro -rota refund is due ( this is likely less than whats been saved by not paying the usage fee in recent months- but it was NU decision to stop calculating this bit)

policy document states that after cancellation a final statement will be iussued - that will confirm what refund/ outstanding amount is due.

Any discount offered on a new policy ( if taken) should not really have any effect on this as its a new contract)

I've had credit check cancellation call, letter, new quote ( not bad) for my first policy -- but nothing on my second car - called twice but " systems down"

need both quotes , as they were previously "mirroring" NCD across both vehicles and I won't start the new policy on car1 until I know car2 will also be competitive- as may need to take both elsewhere to get same mirroring.

i can't believe how arrogant NU have been on this situation. They have certainly lost me as a customer but then, like all other conglomerates these days, I don't suppose they care:mad:

    Had to call them again

the 2 quotes are as cheap as I could get elsewhere ( and tahts assuming other provider would mirror ncd)- although quidco cashbacks would have made it slightly cheap to more ( again though the cashbacks and online discounts might not have been paid given I would have to call re mirror ncd)

so they got my business-( don't bite nose off face) cheaper that projected PAYD .. but dearer than I actaully found I was being charged ( ie road types/ time)
