I had such a nice time last night going out for tea, although we are now nearly £20 down!

No idea what to do for food though today. We have nothing in really at all and we wanted to hold off getting a monthly shop until the new kitchen is finished this weekend.

Hi Hayley - welcome to the boards!! One thing I would highly recommend is going on freecycle and seeing what baby stuff you can get on there. Remember babies grow so quickly, so alot of the stuff you will be able to pick up will be like new. If you can't see anything up that you are looking for, then you can put a 'wanted' advert on freecycle also.

Good luck with your quest to become debt free and also the new baby when she arrives in October:)
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:

  • Hey there hon, came across your diary and enjoyed reading it so thought I would stop and say hi!

Just a quick comment - with the horsey arthritis, I am a physio (human only and work with brain injury so this is way out of my field) and from my experience, it is cold that worsens arthritis, not heat. The times that human patients will complain of increased pain is times of cold or changes is weather (I know it's not scientific but this is experience of loads of patients). I have a back problem and have found taking glucosamine supplements (dont know if this is part of your cortaflex but am assuming it is) really helps. So maybe it is worth still feeding him supplements.

Don't quite understand the whole horsey thing, but understand that when you have a pet/part of your family it is really hard to let them go. At home we had a pet sheep that went to the abertoir 3 times and each time came back in the trailer by himself (alive) before he died peacefully in the corner of his paddock.

Anyway, gotta stop rambling, keep posting, there are lurkers out there reading your diary!

Take care and good luck with your quest! (and contrats on the new arrival soon!). hope the horsey feels better soon!

Hi Hayley  and congrats on the pregnancy and all the progress you've made towards being debt-free already. :)

Just wondered whether you'd ventured on the Families Moneysaving board yet as there's lots of info on there that will help before and after baby arrives! :D

There's even a really helpful and friendly Pregnancy Club Thread HERE that you might find interesting. I found it really useful when I was pregnant - although my youngest is now nearly one already! :o

Today the OH is clearing out the shed so we should find things to ebay and the kitchen will be finished (apart from the floor etc). Then both of us are going to my mums for tea so no food spend!

LOL, another Monday has come around. Feeling very happy and bouncy today but that is probably a very good thing as I have loads of work to do. Got a couple of extra hours in yesterday so am a bit ahead of myself which is nice.

Yesterday when we were sorting out the new kitchen we started cleaning our old microwave and found where it had been starting to rust on the inside in the past it had got really bad. We had a look on the internet and it seems that they can be dangerous in that condition so it has gone to the tip. Looks like an extra cost at some point soon, although there do seem to be some very good deals out there atm.

I am so glad I have a proper budget now though because when all these things crop up, even though it is not ideal I feel like I can cope. Although we may need to be extra MSE with the food shopping this month :)

  • Glad you are feeling all bouncy - have you got some of my energy, feel really flat today!! Don't wanna moan, it's all little stuff that I shouldn't worry about so I'm sure I'll be fine tomorrow! Did you have a productive day with all your energy?

The answer to your question on arthritis is probably redundent now that horsey is all better - but for humans, the best things for arthritis are movement and strengthening the muscles. Massage may make you feel good for a little while but won't really do a huge amount in the long term. Glucosamine is the only thing that's proven as a supplement (as opposed to a medication) to have an effect.

Enjoy your new kitchen - maybe that can give you the motivation to do loads of home and freezer cooking so that you can save some money to pay for the microwave! Have you noticed the don't throw food away challenge on the OS board? I have been trying for a couple of weeks now and was really surprised about the amount that we throw away and how much it can save on the food bill with planning and using up food that may need to be thrown soon!

Thats about it from me hun, good luck with resisting the temptation of the home magazines! Just think about getting that debt payed off so you can pay for things with your money, not someone elses - and you can't be nesting already!!!!

    Take care
