"has anyone else decided to pick up the crochet hook again?what is the nicest thing you have crocheted?"

I decided to pick up the crochet hook again - a friend asked me to crochet a doll's shawl/pram cover. Using 4ply wool and 3.50 hook I made a lacy shawl, measuring about 22" x 22" within 4 days. Crochet is a really quick way of making clothes and it's motivated me to do other things.

THANK YOU Jo_Anne - craftwork keeps me out of mischief! I rarely leave my home, so there's always one thing or three on the go to keep me amused all day, along with looking after our 19 cats. Did you see their photos on the site too?

I found a book called the Beginners Guide to Crochet in the Works yesterday and it looks really easy to follow and there were some nice easy patterns. It was only £3.99 and DH kept telling me to get it but it's too close to christmas to spend money on myself so I have told my eldest that I would love it for a christmas present.

  • I'm looking for a pattern for a warm hat for a 3 year-old boy. I know the basic concept is fairly simple and I could probably work it out if I really tried, but with all this expertise around I thought I'd ask fellow crochet-fans for recommendations.

Hope you can help - apparently my nephew's head has grown a lot since the last time he needed winter hats!

    Thanks.

When I went shopping today I picked up a set of 2 Xmas tea towels for $2. I was thinking of cutting them in half and making fridge/stove towels. I'm sure you have all seen them. I have a couple. Once cut in half it looks like you crochet all around and then at the top you have a longish bit where you put a button. You then put this on your door handle of your oven or fridge for a hand towel.

Would anyone know how to do this, or a pattern I could follow? Thanks in advance.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

  • If you are a knitter or crocheter and want to make some stunning scarves very quickly using whatever yarn you have available then have a look at this site:
    http://curlywhirlies.blogspot.com/
I have to warn you, it does become addictive though.
  • Ooh, thank you so much for that link! I made one of those last week for my daughter's school minibus escort out of some fluffy pink stuff I got from a charity shop for 50p for about 500g. They are addictive and so simple. I did two rows of double crochets then two or three more rows of trebles working twice into each stitch on the treble rows. Next I'm going to make one with ruffles on both sides.
I have discovered a need for warm woolies so I am going to have a go at this one - http://www.hometown.aol.com/tepperleen/page6.html - looks easy and quick enough.

I love knitting and crochet. Crochet's great because it grows so fast. In today's Woman's Weekly magazine there are some great quick accessory items to make for Christmas. There's a glitzy narrow crochet scarf that only takes two small balls (£2.25 each) and a knitted shrug.
  • Thanks for the link to the shrug pattern, Butterflygirl - it's lovely, I've been looking for one like this for ages.

What yarn / size crochet hook are you going to use? I can feel a Xmas project coming on!!!!!!!

    Regards, Stella xx
