I wouldn't mind having a go at tunisian, it seems like a sort of cross bettween crochet and knitting, is that right? I am definitely going to have a go at hairpin crochet one day too.
I can't believe how popular this thread is!0 -
I've decided I am going to have to attempt crochet. I picked up some beautiful white and silver wool today and attempted to knit with it but it's practically impossible. I think I might have to give crochet a go.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

What is the problem with knitting it Moggins? In my experience if something is difficult to knit it is even more so in crochet - anyone ever attempted to crochet with Snowflake? Probably would have been easier to crochet real snowflakes!0

It's like a piece of thread with bits of fluff on it, I only picked it up because it was a real bargain and looked beautiful in the ball. Now I know why it was so cheapOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

Hello!
i learned to crochet as a child and have recently tried to take it up again however despite downloading crochet guides and even buying a 'first steps in crochet' book it wont seem to click!
i wonder if i can ask a couple of questions that arent clear in the book, unfortunately i dont know anyone else who can crochet even though there seem to be a few other young crocheters judging by this thread (i'm 22!)
firstly, after completing the foundation chain (i can just about manage that) the book instructs me to turn my work round, how do i do this? do i take it off the hook?
and secondly, my main problem is knowing where to insert the hook once i've done the foundation chain. the book says the hook is inserted under 2 loops of 2nd chain from hook but this isnt very clear!
please help i've just completed four years of study and was hoping to make some crochet xmas gifts!
thanx0 -
I must say, this thread has made me think about trying crochet again. My mum taught me as a youngster but I always needed a bit of guidance. The only thing I ever finished was a matinee coat for my baby niece, and she turned 18 yesterday!0

badgermonkey wrote:I made myself a shrug this week - nobody could believe I'd made it myself! It's exactly like the ones in the shops that sell for £20+.
I was looking at these in shops the other day as my daughter was looking for one and there were quite a few that had on 'hand crocheted' labels on and cost £45  so if you're nifty with a crochet hook , you could make a fortune if you could sell them to shops
My Mum made a full size tablecloth which was beautiful , heaven knows what that would sell for in a shopSame old same old since 20080 -
moggins - that actually sounds like nice yarn but probably v hard to crochet with! Have you tried it yet?
jinglejangle - I'm not too good at explaining things but I'll have a go. I never bother turning my foundation chain and it has never caused a problem. Once you have completed a row / round you just turn the work so the other side is facing you. Inserting the hook under the 2 loops of second chain from hook is just as it sounds really. Count two stitches from the hook and go through that stitch. If all else fails, wing it, crochet is very forgiving. I have a feeling that wasn't all that helpful really! Oh well I tried.
sheel - I'm sure you will know this already but the only crochet is hand crochet, there isn't a machine that can do it. When you see some of the beautiful thread crochet cardis and camis that come into the shops every Christmas time going for a few quid I always think of the poor person that spent hours slaving over them for pennies. But yes, you are right that there is a lot of expensive stuff out there, unfortunately not usually the person that made it getting the money though.0 -
