Sorry I forgot to say I got the £39.90 back for the 2 heads but not the £1.95 for original postage or £2.14 for my return postage. But I'm happy to get back the £40 quid.

Thanks for taking the trouble to report back. They'd have enhanced their reputation a bit if they'd refunded you the postage - rather short-sighted of them.

one year on and we are still very very happy with our ecocamel. It gives us a good hot shower and we have saved 3 cubic m of water compared to the equivalent period last year. It is definitely an item I would buy again

    From Which? online:
"We did some rough calculations on the potential savings, and found that the Ecocamel could pay for itself well within a year,"

I'm going to buy one and will report honestly on the results I get.

Just Google "Which? ecocamel" to see the report.

    P.S.

Sorry I couldn't post the URL for the Which? webpage but as a new forum poster I got this error message:

I did back to back tests of my existing showerhead with the Ecocamel shower head that arrived today.
My wife & I run our showers at the minimum power shower delivery rate.
Bottom line is that the shower water usage was reduced from 4.5 liters per minute to 3 litres per minute.
My spreadsheet re-calculation shows that at our current water meter rates we would save about £10.47 per year thus paying back the cost of the Ecocamel shower head in about 2.57 years. If we include the cost of heating the water the payback period will be somewhat less.
So, if we find over the next two weeks that the Ecocamel gives an acceptable shower experience we will keep it. Otherwise it will be going back for a refund.

Thanks Rusty. That's the Which? report I was referring to on 05-06-2009 9:50 PM. It is interesting that the reports states "Ecocamel used a third less water". My back to back test result "water usage was reduced from 4.5 liters per minute to 3 litres per minute" also showed the same reduction..
My wife has now used the Ecocamel and is happy with the performance although she feels that the minimum flow is more powerful than through the original showerhead. I'd like to work out how much we will be saving in heating the water but will have to make some assumptions about heat loss, etc. Though doing the best case calculation should not be too difficult.
  • Here are the figures to work on:
    3564 litres saved
10 deg C cold water temperature assumed
38 dec C shower water temperature
28 dec C temperature increase needed
A gas boiler is used for heating water
    Cost of 1kWh of gas = 3.442p
How many kWh are required to heat 3563 litres of water from 10 to 38 deg C ?
Hmm! back to Physics and my schooldays...

    From their website:

It can be used on electric showers to improve showering performance but there may not be a significant saving benefit. It is not designed to work effectively with low pressure gravity fed systems ( this is from a water tank in the loft)

Not a lot of point, then.

Right, so there may be no 'saving benefit' for electric showers and it doesn't 'work effectively' with showers fed from gravity fed systems. So the shower head doesn't give any advantage unless you have a power shower?
