I bought one of these and it is fantastic. It still feels like a powerful shower and just screws onto the shower hose. Uses 75% less water and energy

Looks like this is the manufacturers web site/product

    http://www.challiswatercontrols.co.uk/products/watersaving/Aquiv8412WaterSavingShower.html

    It has a waterwise endorsed

    http://www.waterwise.org.uk/reducing_water_wastage_in_the_uk/house_and_garden/personal_washing_showers.html

The EcoCamel Shower is not suitable for use in the following applications: In Line with an Electric Shower, In Line with a Low Pressure (less than 0.8 bars of pressure) or Gravity Fed Shower System

No idea what that means in red

    these were on GMTV

  • I'd say it means you can only use it with a thermostatic/mixer arrangement or power shower, you can't use it with a standard electric shower.

our shower runs from a condensing combi boiler
  • This shower head needs a minimum of 0.8 bar to work so it won,t work with some thermostatic/mixer setups - it depends on the water pressure. If you have an electric, inline (without a pump) or gravity fed shower it is a waste of time - the flow rate for these showers are pretty low anyway so you might as well stick with a 10 quid B&Q one . Excellent for a power shower but these are wasting a lot more water.

we don`t have a power shower and we get the hot water 2 floors up, directly from the combi boiler on the ground floor. The shower you get from ecocamel is fantastic and I have noticed that I only need the water on a quarter turn. It is as hot as I want and plenty of water to wash my hair etc. My gas usage has definitely gone down

    Hi there,

I ordered one the other week going to see if it makes a real difference. If it does I might buy a 2nd one to reduce the hot water my lodger uses for a shower! I have a standard gas boiler with a hot water storage tank. Hope it reduces my water and gas bill.

How long you had yours Kittie ?

  • I'm very cynical when manufacturers claim stuff so when I bought the ecocamel I got my bucket and stopwatch out. My usage has gone down from 10 litres per minute to 7 litres per minute. For my house it will save at least 24litres per day, 8760 litres per year! @£1.67 per 1000 litres = £14.63. Water is cheaper than heating it so it should save at least double that, breaking even in a year then atleast £50 per year genuine saving.

The only difference this shower head has for me is the little bit of extra noise and slight less water flow when washing hair (takes an extra 5 seconds)

I also bought tapmagic inserts to save even more.
Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:

since june 11th macce and my average gas consumption has been creeping down daily

Nice to see the measurements Andy. I think we will find an ever bigger difference in water volume as I only use 1/4 turn now compared to a full turn of the tap. There is no difference to shower comfort for me, in fact I like the feel of the water better

It's strange but it has a limiter to 7 litres per minute no matter what the orginal flow rate was. My shower is slightly rubbish and it's either dribbling or full tilt. I'm still well happy with my savings.

Anyone know how many KWH it takes to heat 4400 litres (half water saved) from 20 degrees to 45 degrees?
