We have been watching iplayer using www dot uk-iplayer dot com which is set up in the browser. They provide an IP address that is loaded into the setting of the browser and when we first started to use it, it asked for a username and password. Now we can watch telly from back home. Very nice!!0

Heard that it works quite well, but has ads. There are ways round the ads though.0 -
VPNs are probably the best option as they allow any service that requires you to 'appear' to be in the UK to work - not just telly stuff.
An example is Paypal - when I was on holiday I made the mistake of accessing my UK based Paypal account from Spain. They suspended the account and wouldn't let me withdraw til I sent them ID docs, which of course were all back in the UK. As I wanted the money for my holiday that wasn't much help.
I use ExpatTelly.com for this kind of stuff. Plus it means I get to watch US shows too0 -
One option is to get a Sling box (available from £120) from most large electrical shops. This allows you to plug the sling box into your tv or set top box and then watch and control it from anywhere via the Sling player on installed your PC. However, there is a major floor to this solution. What is you don’t have a TV in the UK to which you can connect a Sling box to?
There are two other ways of watching UK TV. You can either watch the likes of BBC iplayer via a proxy or you can watch via a UK VPN service. Having travelled a lot with my job over the years I have tried all three of these methods and would say for ease of use, cost and all round versatility I prefer the VPN method. There are loads of companies out there offering this just Google 'uk vpn'. Personally I have used these guys before: watchuktvabroad.net and found their service to be very good but as I said there are loads of others too.0 -
You need to use a proxy server or VPN for this. The free ones are very slow and you wont be able to stream TV from it, but some of the paid ones are fast enough.0

astrill is supposed to work well. Around $5 a month for a yearly subscription and you can log in through lots of different countries, including the UK. It doesn't have to be all that complicated, as some people are suggesting :P0

Is it illegal? If you pay your license fee and you just want to watch while on hoilday, I'd imagine that the BBC would have a *seriously* difficult time convincing any judge that is it...0 -
Expat Sheield is a good free one for iplayer
Only trouble with the Hotspot Shield is that it seems to be bundled with spyware, not too sure Channel 4OD works on it either now.
Best bet I guess is to go for a paid service, but one that's cheap enough.
I saw this one for 2.99

I've found a standard VPN service is the best way to go although it can be difficult to find one with consistent speeds and quality for iplayer. There are some useful tips explaining how to choose a VPN provider here .. watchuktvabroad.org0
