just make sure you have a decent broadband speed to start with
  • Hey, does anyone have any other solutions to this? I'm teaching English in a French school & am accessing the internet from the school's network which means I'm subject to the school's filtering system (= no access to proxy sites or VPNs!)

Download Hotspot Shield....Or get the Hidemyass VPN, pretty cheap and has nodes in Britain to chose from.

Jo you are screwed I'm afraid.

    Hi All

I have been living in Bulgaria for four years and i wrestled with the TV issue for ages. The method I eventually settled for was VPN which gives my computer a UK IP address. Its not illegal to connect to a VPN and you dont need a TV licence to watch the catchup services. You must have decent basic broadband - a minimum of 2mbps is recommended. After trying one or 2 companies I have been with speedytv.co.uk for a few months and it works really well. I now have my laptop connected to my tv and use the catchup services to watch what I want when I want
  • I use missmysoaps.com, I pay £3.00 per month to watch all the UK TV channels online. I have used other companies in the past which are not as fast and connection is constantly interupted. But this connection is faster and cheaper. I would recommend to anyone
  • Yes I tried them but they wanted 6.00 per month and then the ordering buttons didnt work. I gave up trying after a while and went to Speedytv. Not looked back since
  • Hi, I have been watching uk tv on my computer for a few months now using tvproxy.co.uk it costs 10 euros per month or 89 euros per year. you still need a tv license, although nobody checks you have one, it's really easy to use you only need to put a bit of code in your system prefs and hey presto, coronation street and eastenders here we come! hope this is helpful!

    *STOP*
you *DON'T* need to buy anything!
    it's simple.

    1) When at home go to http://www.whatismyip.com/ and take note of your IP address
    2) install firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/)
    3) install this add-on: Modify Headers https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/967
    4) In firefox go to "Tools" / "Modify Headers"
    5) In the first dropdown select "ADD"
    6) In the second type "X-Forwarded-For"
    7) In the third type the IP address from step 1
    8) Leave last box blank and click "Save"

Now when at home keep is disabled
When you go overseas click "Enable All" and that will send your home's old IP address to sites that use IP address for regional verification.

I've used it to watch "The Daily show with Jon Stewart" and "Southpark" from their websites. (Well if you know a USA based IP address to use that is) :P

The real motivation of viewers here is not to steal content, but to access media to which they feel 'culturally entitled".

The above posts show it's fruitless for media content owners to throw a geo or political border around their offerings. About time the likes of the BBC started offering such cross-border services themselves, and ensure that their content suppliers play ball.

These companies sell rights to the programs to other countries just as US companies do to us...hence they are not allowed under terms of the deals to broadcast to those licenced areas.

The BBC intentends to make a pay service for Iplayer for overseas viewers soon, and there is some runour of changes in the law from dec 19th according to the guys on this site forum http://www.tvcatchup.com/ where many questions like this can be seen...and also of course the actual programs (which may not work abroad but may be worth a try).

Who would imagine TV got this complex ? :rotfl:

I always wondered if GoTOMyPC would work to do this ? If you had a mate here allowing you access to use iplayer on their machine ?

That Firefox add-in idea is new to me. It defies common sense that the browser alone could successfully spoof the originating ip address to fool iPlayer, BBC, etc. To detect and block such a spoof seems childishly easy IMHO.
