The wider economy is now being affected by the crash.

Carphone Warehouse has become an unlikely victim of Britain's housing slump after it warned that a sharp decline in housing transactions had hit demand for its broadband business.
Charles Dunstone, the group's chief executive, said that fewer people moving house had led to slower growth in this business. “One of the key times people change broadband provider is when they move house,” he said. “If you're not moving house the catalyst to make you think about changing provider does not exist.”
He added: “Everyone I talk to in the retail world is so gloomy and so worried about the outlook that I do think we have to take a cautious view on the rest of the year.”

I don't feel that business in crisis warrants two yellow faces pushing beer glasses at each other....0 -
seemed so unlikely at first when I saw the topic but it does make sense when you read it.
a rebranding may help - perhaps warphone carehouse.0 -
Thats exactly what I first thought Broderick.
Zammo doesn't give a toss what happens to other businesses or peoples jobs etc if it means he can get a cheap house.
Very selfish.0 -
Too right Dan. Bring on the recession. The people of this country have gone soft after gorging themselves on cheap credit. Time they got a taste of reality.0

2; Please stop generalising...not everyone 'gorged', not everyone was 'greedy' and anyone can get caught out, whether now or in the future.0 -

A recession will effect everyone, not just people who have used cheap credit and gained from HPI. What about all the innocent people who will suffer? That makes you just as greedy as any HPI cheerleader.0 -
Although some may not agree the apporach that Zammo is taking. I think we can all congratulate him on turning his life around after his drug fuelled school days back in the 80s. Perhaps the heroin still has an effect on some of his postings?
If Mrs McCluskey was a better head teacher perhaps Zammo will not have found himself in this position. 'Just say no!'.
Zammo, are you still friends with Roland?0 -
It'd be simple to turn around the fortunes of Carphone Warehouse.
Simply offer a broadband deal with no contract.
Everybody's renting these days, or on the market.... meaning nobody wants to commit to a contract when they're not sure how long they'll be where they are.
Create a no contract product and people would sign up to it.
Hang the marketing/advertising off "life's uncertain" "uncertain times" and how safe you can be with CW that you aren't going to be tied into something.
Most people stick with a supplier if there's no reason to change, so people would move CW with them as they move about.
As a renter on a 6 month AST it's a pain in the bum that everybody wants you to sign 12 and 18 month contracts for phones/BB etc.
Nobody likes commitment in uncertain climates.

I couldn't give a toss about the "innocents". And if you're honest nor could you.
It's every man for himself. And I am ready to rise to the challenge.
Are you?0 -

You remind me of that scrawny shaking little man in the corner with a long beard and greasy hair, mumbling about the coming of the devil and how we are all doomed. Everyone walks past, cracks a slightly nervous smile and says 'ooookkayyyyyyyyy buddy.....'.
There is one of those in an alley in Leeds centre. Poor chap, he'll probably be dead soon.0
