Thinking of Grilling myself and my family

But civilisations do collapse and have done for eons. There's no reason to privilege ourselves in the West; no doubt the Easter Islander who felled the last tree on the island thought it was for the best!
We ARE past peak oil and useless Nulabour have failed to develop any other power sources
We ARE unable to feed the absurdly high UK population
We ARE living it up based on a bubble of debt and now have a a systemic economic and market failure
We ARE facing nuclear attack from Islamics who proclaim they love death more than we love life.
We ARE a divided society with a feral underclass of millions, all the conditions for an explosion are there
We ARE sleep-walking into a Police State...0 -
There are two separate issues.
The economic mess now is a short to medium term one; house prices will fall. The derivatives market consensus is for a 50% fall in real terms. Personally I still expect more like a 20-25% nominal fall, of which we've already had 7% anyway. Unemployment will go up for a while, growth will slow, we'll all feel poorer.
The long-term mess - climate change, oil depletion, and a growing global population unsupported by a growth in the food supply - that's medium to long term, and it's every bit as real as I and others here have said. If you don't think there'll be riots when four hungry families arrive at the shops and find there's only three meals' worth of food left, you don't live in the same England as I do.
We've bought our way out of it in the past, but England, Europe, America, we are not the masters now.Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!0 -
Oh for crying out loud. Back to Mr & Mrs Rooney.0

And you thought you'd lighten things up with a post about killing/eating your partner and children - making the sickening decision to end everything for them on your say-so? Few things in this world are worse than such a course of action imo. Even the very thought of it.
Your blame on posters here for discussing economic conditions and the impact on house prices is unwarranted - and your position probably comes from losing out in this eventuality.
A lot of people are trying to best position themselves for the fallout after a long period of irresponsible lending, irresponsible borrowing, and reckless economic conditions which could never be sustained.0 -
And these matters can be discussed without you wishing to silence us.
Just because they are issues which may bring about hard times for people, including ourselves, doesn't mean we should ignore them and pretend they are not happening.
This is real. It does not go away with wishful thinking and happy fluffy thoughts.0 -

Yes you are right. This is all real. But this is an internet site for Pete's sake. We are not going to achieve anything by slagging each other off.
Times ARE tough. But not nearly as tough as our ancestors have had. So lets be grateful, eh?0 -

Don't twist it. The OP didn't rant at "slagging each other off" - it was aimed at the section of people who discuss deteriorating economic conditions and falling house prices.
So forgive me for not finding the thought of some guy murdering his family and eating them amusing, all because of a serious economic upheaval. There is no excuse for such a course of action ever.0 -

I laughed my head off at this (am I allowed to say that ? my head didn't really fall off).
I only read the abridged version, it's called BLACK HUMOUR...o.k so it doesn't appeal to everybody but (I thought) it was funny, and although I take the point of the doom and gloom and sometimes agree, we can't be sunk in it ALL the time.... we can still have a laugh.
AxDon't believe everything you think.
Blessed are the cracked...for they are the ones who let in the light. A x0
