Anyone noticed that AVG 8 is none too popular?

Options
They're extending the support period for 7.5.

In my book, that means they're panicking on account of all the problems that are being reported regarding version 8 and a consequent low take-up.

I'm staying with 7.5, support or no support, until such time as I see more favourable reports coming in. In extremis, I may switch completely to some other product.

Staying with an AV with no support surely defeats the purpose of having an AV? I'd suggest to people if they don't want to upgrade to 8.0 at a time support is dropped for 7.5 then they should switch programs because you'll no longer really be properly protected.

And having Antivirus software which creates more problems than the viruses against which it is supposed to protect is, similarly, more than somewhat purpose-defeating.

    There's the rub...

I don't see the dilemma at all. If AVG 7.5 stops being supported and 8.0 still has problems then change program. Where's the rub in that? It's not like you're locked in to AVG.

I found V8 really slowed my machine down, so I changed to AVAST. I was sorry to leave AVG but the last version was SLOW ! May go back if things improve.

I've run AVG for the past couple of years but I'm staying with 7.5 until upgrades are no more. Then I'll switch to another one unless v8 has improved. Also, I'm not at all happy at the reports that v8 eats up a lot of space so....

I switched to Avast. I don't like to new AVG 8, although it looks nicer than it used to, but that is about it.

I don't bother with the sceduled scans - I set it to scan manually about once a week or so. I might upgrade to AVG8 if you can turn off the extra features. Does it still have pointless always-on-top popups to tell you the update has finished?

I left AVG because it appeared to stop media player working on a web page.
