I've been a fan of AVG for a very long time and have always recomended it to family and friends. I tested AVG8 on another machine for a little while and really couldnt fault it. Like may others, I turnd off daily scanning and the new Link scanning as its more of an annoyance to me rather than a tool. I've since installed it on my main pc and its been no bother at all.

My problem is that on boot up AVG tries to search for updates before I have connected to the internet and then gives an error message saying that it was unable to update. Does anyone know a fix for this?

Just change the time that updates are scheduled in Update Manager or use a router.

I have 2 computers running now on AVG8 and no problems either in fact I think it is picking up more than before.
I also use Trend and sometimes Defender...best to use more than one occasionally.

I understand AVG 7.5 will now be supported until AT LEAST 31 Dec 08.

    Has anyone else heard this?

From the grisoft website. See ?1350. 11 down the list at the time of writing

    http://www.grisoft.com/ww.faq.num-1350#faq_1350

AVG 7.5 will be supported until December 31, 2008. The support includes:
    • releases of new Virus Base updates, ensuring identical signature-based detection with AVG 8.0
    • releases of new program updates, fixing known or newly found problems in the program
    • technical and sales support for AVG 7.5
Please note that if you wish to keep using AVG 7.5 after release of AVG 8.0, you need to use the correct License Number for this version. This number was provided to you upon purchase or registration of AVG and starts with '70' or '75'. In case you purchased or renewed AVG 7.5 license after the release of AVG 8.0 and you received License Number for AVG 8.0, you may need to contact our sales support to receive a License Number for AVG 7.5.
The latest installation files of AVG 7.5 are available at our website.

So only the paid-for version will be supported, not the free one.
I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right

Not true, the free one will also be supported until 31/12/2008.

    Ok, thanks.

That's me settled with 7.5 until the end of the year, at least.
