Anyone noticed that AVG 8 is none too popular?

I understand AVG 7.5 will now be supported until AT LEAST 31 Dec 08.
That should be time enough for those of us who have heard 'bad things' about AVG 8.0 to wait out, let them sort out the mess (if, indeed, there is one) and still maintain an up-to-date anti-virus.0 -
I tried v8 on a test machine when it was released, and it almost killed it, was impossible to disable some of the intrusive web features, which slowed down browsing, it was massively resource hungry over v7.5, so 7.5 is back on that machine.
The first install also prevent HTML e-mails working correctly, but installing again fixed it.
It's a pity, v7.5 is an excellent product, lean, fast, capable. v8 is bloatware in the same way Norton used to be.
There is a long thread about this on the forums, much discussed here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=8760730 -
I'm a tad confused here. I've been using AVG version 8 for a couple of weeks or so, and found it actually better than the previous version. I've disabled the automatic scans and I'll manually do a scan once a week myself.
The previous version used to spend ages downloading the latest update every time I booted up and would take around 5 to 10 minutes. This version doesn't appear to have daily updates as I don't have the same palava every time I switch the PC on.
Either I'm not using it properly, or I'm missing something 'cos I've had no problems with the new version at all?0 -

Even if there's a majority of people with problems (which would be a complete catastrophe) that still doesn't mean 100% of people will see problems."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I've had no problems either - if anything it seems to take up less resources while scanning than the older version. Weird.0 -

As said, problems don't have to be universal. E.g. SP3 for Windows XP installed fine for most people and is speedier but I was one of the few that fell foul of specific configuration that didn't want it to install properly. There's a huge number of variables and not all PCs are identical. In fact I'm sure they're pretty much all unique taking software as well as hardware into account."She is quite the oddball. Maybe not needed as a post - but fwiw AVG v.8 has been fine for me too.If many little people, in many little places, do many little things,
they can change the face of the world.

I'm another who actually likes the new version.
Yes it's resource hungry, but I've been running mcafee's site advisor for months now, so I don't notice the lag in webpage display.
It also stops and wipes out the very "frequently occuring" SpyAxe derivitive thing, the 40 dollar one, which I've been having problems shifting off machines for the last 12 months.
Offered a choice between the fishnet McAfee and the very corruptable Norton, give me the AVG any day.0 -
If it ain't broke why did they try to fix it?
v7.5 for me0 -
Trend Micro Internet Security for me
3 lisncences, resonble price and haven't had problems from having it for 2 years now. (I say that, my previous serial would let me have unlimited users using it, but I couldn't upgrade so I had to tell them so I could)
