    hello all,

I have read this thread 3 times and I think it's slowly going in...

I have around 20,000 club card points showing at the moment on my statement.... It has taken about 5 months to get these. we (2 adults and 3 children) would love to go to canada 2007.

I was going to build them up over the next 12 months and then thought my only option was to book up with tradewinds... now I see this and it's got me thinking again.

I have never flown with BA... do I need to have flown with them to get this offer.. or can I just open an acc???

Do I just ring tesco and ask them to send me BA miles??? Do they come in vouchers... how long do they last???

Whats with this 2 4 1 deal???? Which credit crad offers that???

    Sorry for all the questions.

20,000 clubcard points will convert to 48,000 BA Miles. To get 5 of you to Canada and back in economy using BA Miles will require 250,000 BA Miles. This equates to about 104,000 Clubcard points. (Incidentally that would be worth £4160 against a Tradewinds holiday using Deals vouchers).

Yes you need to have a flown a 'qualifying' flight with them within about the last 3 months, or have one booked in the future. A qualifying flight will be either a flexible economy ticket or any type of club, first or premium economy ticket. Rumour has it that there are ways to join without having to buy one of these tickets.

There is a form to complete and send to Tesco with your Clubcard vouchers and BA number on it. The miles are added to your BA account electronically. Miles will last for 3 years unless some activity takes place on the account. So if you add more miles or spend them, you will automatically extend the validity for a further 3 years.

The British Airways American Express card is the one for this. When you reach a specified spend level then you can exchange BA Miles for a flight and a companion can fly free* with you (*subject to obscene extra charges).
The basic card is free and you need to spend £20,000 to get the companion voucher. Then there is a card with an annual fee between £30 and £120 that only needs a £15,000 spend. There is no time limit to reach these spends.

Please see this other thread for real detailed info though - the guys over on flyertalk are better experts than I am.

Wolvoman is spot on in his summing up.

We joined the BA Exec Club after we had bought a RTW ticket with them in WTP and were allocated the points / miles when we flew. You can also collect them with other airlines / partners - as we have no Tesco's I collect them from buying fuel at Shell garages and converting them that way (1500 shell pluspoints gets you 1000 miles and before anyone says that this is pants it doesn't matter as I use it to fill the works van up everyday). We have a household account with bertieclaire and have also taken another flight on BA to Alaska and back and we still only have 47,000 miles. As i said earlier on in this thread you probably get better savings upgrading a ticket than using them to purchase a basic ticket.

If you're not a regular flyer then it takes ages to collect and probably Tesco's would be the easiest choice.

For the guy that wants to fly to Canada - keep collecting!

Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? (with no government funding) Please donate to the RNLI
  • I recently flew to Dubai and back on BA Air Miles. In World Traveller class, taxes, etc, were £89 on top of the otherwise 'free' flight.

don't think ba flight from ncl-sdq only airtours fly to sdq most of the other operators fly to puj, all will be manchester since the operators only fly to dom rep from ncl in the summer and that's to pop.
    Hope this helps.

Yes - you need 50,000 BA miles for each World Traveller (economy) ticket to anywhere in North America (US & Canada). See https://www.britishairways.com/travel/ba6.jsp/ecredeemtable/public/en_gb - UK is Europe 1.

There are at least two ways to join without having flown with BA. Book a flexible ticket far in advance, and use that to open your account prior to the date and then cancel the tickets.
OR get one of the BA American Express cards - the best is the Premium Plus in terms of miles earnt per £ spent - 1.5 - however this has a fee of £120. So get the Amex Blue card first - not a BA card - the one with 2% cash back - this is free so long as you charge £500 per annum to it - then apply for the BA PP amex - through the promotional links to get 5,000 bonus BA miles and the fee is reduced to £30 per annum (as long as you retain the Blue). Amex will then open a BA Exec Club account for you.

There is also a BA Exec Club link to do this automatically.

The only additional fee for using the 2-4-1 voucher is a £15 off-line booking fee per ticket ~ this is a bit rich as you cannot redeem it on-line so it is yet another slightly annoying charge, the other fees apply to all redemption tickets (taxes & surcharges).

You can buy clubcard points, just not from Tesco directly:
