Isn't this inefficient? Clubcard points aren't worth 4x as much for BA miles, are they?

Bad example. Domestic flights are crap value with BA - my company pays anything between £89 and £350 for a return flight for me between Glasgow and Stornoway...compare that to a discount £100 return to Lanzarote which is a flight of about 20 times the distance!!!

Just used my BA Exec account to get a quotation and a return to Vancouver effectively costs £125 in Clubcard vouchers (30000 BA Miles/600 x £2.50) plus taxe/surcharge.

An example flight I've just looked at for Vancouver adds £112.80 in fuel surcharges and taxes, so you're quite right they do add it on afterwards, but that's still £238 return to Vancouver, which is LESS THAN HALF the cheapest fare you will find.

PS...You RENT DVDs from Blockbuster...now THAT's a bad use of Clubcard Vouchers!!!

you will find that distance is a minor factor as to the price of flights.

1000 BA Miles cost £15 minimum from BA, so that makes 600 worth £9.00, so it's almost 4 x face value, plus when you buy top-up BA miles there's an admin charge, so in all, 600 BA Miles costing £2.50 are worth at least £10.

    errr...yes, and your point is???

We could all forget about Tesco Clubcard vouchers and buy 2nd grade food from Aldi/Netto and fly with low grade carriers couldn't we???

errr...Every time I've ever shopped there!!

(I was joking BTW, just making a point about the cost of flying and the fact that 30p in every £1 spent in shops is spent in Tesco etc etc)

But if 20,000 BA Miles gets me a return flight to Spain that would usually cost £100, then aren't 600 BA Miles worth £3?

    Correct me if I'm wrong.

BA miles seem to be better value if you use them to upgrade an existing booking to a higher class such as WTP, Club or First.

Tricky. The number of points for BA flights doesn't seem to vary with the actual price for a particular route. So, that £100 BA flight (they're quite rare!!!) might cost £250 on a different day but would still appear to cost the same number of points...

It's a bit like the other example that's on one of the threads - £3000-odd holiday price changed to nearly £5000 when payment was offered in Clubcard points.

Also, £100 might get you a Sleasyjet return to Spain, whereas the same flight on BA might be £200. Depends what you're comparing. I have just paid £700 for a holiday which is £1450 with Thomsons, but then I wouldn't dream of paying £1450 or booking a package that's not been severely reduced anyway!!!
