Just wanted some thoughts plz, the just of it is my daughter whos 6, plz bear in mind that I am the least craft enabled person there is.

I remember from my blue perter days, where they made a stationary box out of a cereal box and a peice of wrapping paper, add in paper, envelpoes and a nice pen, and set 6 stamps, are they to tacky for her to give to the older relatives, ?
    Cheers x

In John Lewis yesterday I saw a craft kit with different coloured fleece squares fringed round the edges and you tie the frayed edges together to make a patchwork no sew blanket. The no sew blanket has made it big :p

Think it was selling for £15 (may have been more). Wondered if this could be used as an idea to make your own craft kit for a child??? Think the squares were about 10 inches and in bright primary colours.

I've looked on the JL website to show you a pic but can't find it on there.

I'm hoping to get to Ikea over the next few weeks to get some fleece throws to have a go at some 2-sided no sew blankets.

I don't think that sounds tacky at all, sounds like a really thoughtful, useful gift :D

I like the idea of the home-&-child made stationary box too Mum2One:DA variation
that's just crossed my mind is to have the box as before, but get a cheapee address book & cover it in the same paper as the box, add the pen & also some brightly coloured bits of paper so as to have handy for jotting down phone numbers & dates etc, when Granny is on the phone? Perhaps a little pad of those sticky note things that you can get in bargain shops? Could perhaps cut out a large old fashioned phone shapes to stick on the box if need be....

I lurve watching those shows where they give you ideas of how to do things in a much cheaper & chemical-free way, & the lady from 'Houses Behaving Badly' made some scented drawer liners using brown parcel paper, sprinkling on essential oils & then them dry before using. I thought me muvva was trying to be posh when she used to do ours with bits of old wallpaper etc, but they genuinely prevent the clothes from becoming musty & damp.....Handy for those peeps who change from summer-to-winter wardrobes, or in our house we use suitcases to store extra bedding & chunky jumpers:p

So does that help at all Valli? I keep meaning to see if that lady---- her name is Stephanie summat---or Aggie & Kim have any books........Oh! Now THAT would make a great prezzie for newbie home-owners! Little jars with olde worlde hints & tips, along with relevant 'tools'...who do I know who's moving????:rotfl:

siren - thanks for the link........thats the one for the pickled bums ! I've got a jar of pickled heads I picked up in a charity shop just for the novelty of it a few years back and all the kids we've had love it..........same sort of thing as pickled bums except thicker material and some eyes on..........love 'em !

mum2one - stationary set is a brilliant idea and whoever she gives it to will be even more thrilled that she's made it herself

jane pleased OH isn't too badly injured and things will get back to normal.

Had a catalogue through the door yesterday and one of the items was a 'bed jacket' but what it actually was, was a very short version of a towelling dressing gown. If anyone's got one kicking about thats a bit worn at the bottom it might be an idea to create on of these..........plus you often see them in the charity shops really cheap.......ideal for those who don't need a full dressing gown.

Today..........dare I mention ??? Wanted to make sons Beatles figures a but more interesting to unwrap, (he saw them in a shop when he was up here and went mad for them), and I've printed off that many beatles images to contemplate a card out of so, I've wrapped his pressie in brown paper and stuck the surplus beatles piccys all over it.............made a card to go with it and all was going fine till I ran out of pritt stick  Found some 'liquid glue', tried that and now the piccy on the card has gone all crinkly and if I try to smooth it out it rips:eek: So, thats come to a halt at the moment. OH is out, so are kids but I can't go out to get some more pritt stick incase the youngest needs to come back (plus I'm fed up with paper and glue by now.............ll) Want to get this parcel posted tomorrow

Oh well, its not his 'proper card' so maybe he'll have to make do with a crinkly one....................lol

Just a quick thought - for those of us who can't knit [arthritis, RSI etc] if you're intereseted, as I am, in felted woollen items - could we BUY/acquire old knitted cardis etc, hot wash and spin them, then cut it up to use as felted wool? I only ask as I'm not a skilled crafter, but I've shrunk/felted many a jumper in the past!!!

This is a great way of making felted bags. http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1402/1071921841_61e6ac2c51.jpg%3Fv%3D1186760437&imgrefurl=http://www.flickr.com/photos/25371733%40N00/1071921841/&h=333&w=500&sz=106&hl=en&start=3&tbnid=HUjNEXBkEWWwSM:&tbnh=87&tbnw=130&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dfelted%2Bsweater%2Bbag%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den

Do a google image search for felted bag sweater and you should see some good ideas.

I also found this page on craft felted sweater....

mum2one I just wanted to show you this, I've been trying to find it in my favourites list all day (really must sort my list out):p
    http://jackietopa.typepad.com/addicted_to_stamping/2008/05/stationary-box.html

It's such a great idea - along the lines of what I thought you were saying?
There's a pdf file to download insructions for the box. I know the cardmaking ladies will make light work of this.
I'm sure this would make a great present. Again I don't have anybody to craft it for but would just love to see it if anyone makes one.

This one here is the same but it shows you all the bits and pieces that are inside
